Norfolk & Western 611 Steam Train!

All aboard! Norfolk and Western number 611 is one of the most famous restored steam locomotives in the United States. It was built by the N&W in their Roanoke shops in 1950 and retired in 1959. Later, it would go on to have two second careers as an excursion locomotive. Let's take a look at this wonderfully restored streamlined steam locomotive as it pulls several excursion trips in Virginia.

The 611 blows 4449 out of the water! 611’s the Queen because she is modern, burns coal like other steamers, streamlined, powerful, and beautiful! 611 is my favorite because of how awesome she looks! She holds a lot of power in her belly, and has exquisite beauty, complete with speed of over 100 MPH!

Awesome! I grew up 15 miles south of Charlottesville, and they ran this train by our house a few times, in 70’s and 80’s. We could hear it from mikes away.

Nice to see the old girl still in action. I got to see her in person about thirty-five years ago, and got to stand in the cab and have my picture taken by my folks. I hope I can take my son to see her for himself one day.
