It was so cool to see your TBR shelf! You have so many cool editions, that copy of East of Eden is fab-u-lous! I loved Wind in the Willows - it's very charming and adventurous kids book and... like... animals! I just read Rendezvous with Rama and loved it! Great classic in space sci-fi goodness. Happy Reading!

Rendezvous With Rama and Flowers For Algernon are both fantastic; as is Neuromancer. Rama is one of my all time classic SF books in fact.

The Pillars of the Earth is one of my all time favorites. It's about a lot more than the building of a Cathedral, it's about being a good person in a world that is wholly indifferent, and sometimes hostile, to good people. Don't be intimidated by the size. Follett usually writes thrillers, and this book flows with an extremely exciting plot. It won't take as long to read as you might think.

Didn't really like Wuthering Heights. It was quite sad, but not all the time. Flowers for Algernon is EXTREMELY sad, but in a way that is also cathartic.

Three Musketeers was good, but there are problems, including a rather big plot hole and some boring parts.

If you like tragedies, you'll like Death of a Salesman. If you ever get a chance to see it performed though, I'd say do that.

Stranger in a Strange Land made me extremely uncomfortable. I think its because it asked me to consider which parts of society exist for a moral purpose, and which are just there for tradition's sake. I don't necessarily agree with all of Heinlein's conclusions, but I found it fascinating to consider. I'd highly recommend this one as well for it's thought provokingness.

I love TBR shelf tours! I'm reading Moby Dick right now! It's really strange, but also really fascinating! I really liked Wuthering Heights but all the characters are kind of horrible. I loved the Golden Compass series as a kid, but I really need to reread it :)

I have so many classic books I haven't read. It's just not something I've enjoyed much when I've picked them up. I am going to check out 'The Brontë Sisters', and then I'd like the puffin and bloom classics, just because I like the sound of those stories, even though they're targeted at younger audiences.

I liked both The Fifth Season and The Golem and the Jinni, but I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that The Fifth Season is good since everyone's been buzzing about it. I read The Golem and the Jinni longer ago, but I remember it being a pretty straightforward, easy read if you're ever feeling like a respite from some of the denser stuff.

I really strongly disliked Wuthering Heights in high school. I realize negativity is no help, but maybe try one of the other Brontes first? I haven't read Villette though, so I can't specifically recommend that one. I have my dad's old copy of The Crystal Cave to read, but I'm not sure when I'll get to it, since I've gotten the growing feeling of late that Arthurian stories aren't really my thing.

I have that same Mahfouz omnibus. All of the translations are very readable. I liked Midaq Alley the best. It had an interesting sampling of Egyptian society and showed how being being dominated or occupied by foreign powers compounded the problems of daily life. While I enjoyed the other two works, I felt they lost a bit in the cultural translation. I think they would be really enjoyable for readers more familiar with the time and place in which they were set.
