Gaustatoppen (1883 m.o.h.) towers majestically over Rjukan, and is considered by many to be Norway's most beautiful mountain.
Gaustatoppen is easily accessible and easy to climb, but still offers the widest view in southern Norway. From Gaustatoppen you can in clear weather see about one sixth of Norway.
Easiest route to Gaustatoppen
Gaustatoppen is easiest to reach from the road between Rjukan and Tuddal. The start is from the parking lot at Stavsro approx. 1100 m.o.h.
The height difference is about 700 meters, but the path up is wide and clear. The surface consists of stones, large and small.
As you approach the top, the view becomes increasingly beautiful, and you see the mountains in Telemark, Buskerud and Oslomarka in the distance.
The last stretch north of the ridge offers great views in all directions, not least above
