German tax id: How to get it and why you need it #HalloGermany

Ever heard of "Steueridentifikationsnummer"? This is a unique, permanent tax identification number that every resident in Germany has. Your employer needs your tax ID to calculate your income tax and you will also need it for other important steps like opening a bank account in Germany.

Hello, I have lived in Germany in the past before and had done a registration when I was there. Does that mean I would already have a tax ID? I will be moving back soon but don’t remember having one, do I have to find it or can i get a new one? Thanks!

Hello mem i am indian and i reach in september 2022 but i ger work permission in december 2022 and i have oppintment for get my visa card ( id card) in march 2023 .. i allready invalding my apprtment .. but still i not get my tax id plz teach me how i get my tax id.. jan 2023 1st week i get my AOK card .. but still not get my tax id and i cant open my bank account bcoz i dont have tax id and plz teach me and help me mem 🙏🙏🙏 i am living in bochum .

Hi @HalloGermany are you familiar with people under SOFA status? I just got a job with a German company but as a SOFA holder I am not supposed to register, but on the other hand I do need a tax ID, so I wonder if I only get the tax ID without registering. TIA

Hi I work for a German company from Prague (Czech Republic) somehow my payroll department applied for tax ID for me already and I have it. If I apply for German blue card and plan to move there do I need to apply for a new one or the same ID would be fine ? do I need to put this tax ID paper in my German blue card visa file while applying ?
