Correction here on the Frontiers bit, the Adventure games won’t be retconned, and SEGA is not rewriting canon to fit with the movies.

It’s been said numerous times with interviews with the writer that Frontiers is the latest game in the timeline and will have references to other games through dialogue, with Sonic himself even mentioning the chao garden.

Also the Prologue animation isn’t a new origin for Knuckles, it’s just a prologue for the game itself. Knuckles has always been guardian of the master emerald since Sonic 3 and into the Adventure games, which is why he’s standing there as the digitized lightning is striking. Other than that, good rundown.

I doubt they will retcon anyone's origin stories in sonic frontiers, seeing as sonic origins just released. But knuckles origins wasn't actually in that game but it is in sonic adventure so if anyone's origin story will be changed it would be his.

Takashi Iizuka even said he would really like to do a Sonic Adventure 3. If the movie really is gonna be based off the adventure games, the only scary thing about it is the possibility of them messing it up or changing major key parts (I personally have a lot of faith if that's the case). I also don't think they're completely changing Knuckles background, they may just be adding things, and if they do that right, it's not necessarily a bad thing. Also who the hell is Amy Rose, the most popular female Sonic character seen as Sonic"s love interest to some fans and has a hammer and loves tarot card reading?
