Arduino Powered Autonomous 'Follow Me' Cooler

In this video we show off our DIY Arduino Uno powered autonomous "follow me" cooler. The cooler connects to your smartphone via bluetooth and uses GPS coordinates streamed from your phone to follow you. All the electronics are be contained in the base so that other objects can be carried as well. It's great to use at a tailgate or a BBQ in the park.

The robot uses some open source Arduino libraries and off the shelf hardware, so anybody can build one at home!

I would like one of these when I am working in the garden - I could load it with gardening tools and supplies and it would follow me around. Then I wouldn't spend half my time looking for them and shifting them about. A 'Follow Me' robot would be really useful - imagine painting the house and it would follow you around with paint, scrapers, sandpaper, thinners and all the other stuff you are always looking for. If it would come out to the car when I get home and I could load it up with whatever and it would follow to wherever I was taking it that would be really good. I like this.

I seen your build a week or two ago, but that lid is new and it is so cool.

Instead of programming it to navigate in a straight line to the tracking device, you should program it to follow the path of the tracking device. That way, it'll be less likely to bump into things. Obviously, you can implement this very easily by storing the tracking device's coordinates every second or fraction of a second so that the cooler can plot a route.

The cart & wheels have many applications! For instance, in the past I was trying to think of a way to help the elderly(like people who can't bc they use a walker) take out the garbage & this would be a perfect start to that. Or maybe it could help them take their laundry to the machine. For people that dont have anybody to help them but they can't carry things bc they walk with a Cane or walker

I thought gps was inaccurate. How does it know your exact location? Does it only depends on gps?

What should we use for tracking without GPS?

how expensive/hard would it be to add sensors in that make it readjust when it comes to an object like a tree or fence?

I have a question
Gps signal is not rapid and not correct
. And inside the building how can work??

It seems like you have to walk at a fairly slow pace to allow the cooler to keep up. Would you have rather used 8 inch diameter wheels instead of 6 inch to get the speed up or do you think you wouldn't have enough motor power to turn the larger wheels fast enough? I calculated an 8 inch wheel based on a 3 mph walking speed and a 130 rpm motor speed. Either way, fantastic build, and thank you so much for supplying the build sheet and code. You've inspired me to build one of my own. Cheers!
