For the SCP-096, you don’t have to remember his face for you to get attacked. There were scenarios where people wouldn’t even see his face for them to process, but because they viewed a picture with his face in it (even if they couldn’t see him) he would get triggered.

I always assumed the disease 049 always talks about is the fear in humanity. I noticed in most stories of it that it mentions the disease whenever someone starts getting scared of it but never when the person isn’t scared.
