The whole "you lose all your money when you die" thing is a way to make you try harder for upgrades because one of them makes the guy take less money from you.
That way you have something to aim for, thus making you play the game more.
In my opinion the game is around 8-9/10

It's really not that hard (and I'm not even good at platformers).

The mechanics for death are also a lot nicer than a true roguelike, since you keep all your upgrades!

The game is very addictive, try it!

Yep, and it still is something I do for fun, thank you very much. Only a complete fool would give up something they loved doing when they started being able to do it for a living.

But I just realized I'm arguing with someone who has the name "usuckmoron" about the legitimacy of my work. And with that, I'm done.

My only problem with that was that it made the game feel a little grindy, like you had to run through the castle a thousand times to ever make it to the last boss.

That's obviously a design choice they went with, but I kind of wish skill played a bigger part so an unupgraded player had more chance. This is just IMO

This is game is really fun for the first few hours as you try to see how far you can get, but it becomes a bit of a grind after that as you get stronger and the early areas are no longer much of a challenge but you're pretty much forced to keep clearing them to grind out gold. Could also have done with a little more enemy variety, but overall a good indie game that plays well.

I didn't know it had a patch. After checking it I had version 1.0.10a, I guess I will get back to it for a while (even though I'm probably get destroyed in my current quest +3 after not playing for so long, lol)

Steam reports that it took me 42 hours to get 100% achievements, although that number is skewed a bit since it wasn't the first file I had ever played. If you're a hardcore platformer this is more like 9/10, if not then 7/10 is about right.

If you progress enough in the game, you can unlock certain skill, that allows you to keep some of your money before entering the castle. Just thought I should have pointed it out.

I think Jared is a very fair reviewer, most people have just gotten used to overly generous reviews, like IGN'S where every good game is a 8.5+

They took the most interesting aspect of the games demo out of the full version, it's still a pretty cool game though. What did they remove? Genuine secrets. In the demo there are secrets with no super obvious indication of its presence, in the full version they are all made tons more obvious which just made the secrets lame.

Secrets = hidden passages/chests obfuscated by terrain etc.

Please make a One Minute Review on La Mulana Jared! It's kinda like Rogue Legacy, only it's even more like Castlevania, and i think it's even harder than it, but it's super rewarding and it has a lot of exploration and discovery!

7 is a "good" score in Jared's rating system, 8 is great, 9 is excellent and 10 is masterpiece (even though Jared seems to give that score to way too many games nowadays).
You can't expect him to give a 8 to a game with so many problems/unreached potential.
