GPD WIN 3 - THE GOOD AND THE BAD!

Who doesn’t love portable gaming hardware nowadays? I am a sucker for handheld consoles, and in fact, I’ve got a number of Nintendo Switch consoles, PSP, PS Vita; pre-ordered the Steam Deck, and even bought this!

This is the GPD Win 3, which has been with me since last month; and I’m having so much fun with it. Today, I’ll talk about why I’m having so much fun with it; and why I think that having a handheld gaming device is the way to go this 2022 and beyond.

Not particular for this device... but how are these handheld gaming PCs when it comes to sleep - wake cycle? It's one of the more important features for me that make handhelds super convenient, and is primarily why I prefer these devices over home consoles.

happy GPD Win 3 user here. It fits my use cases - handheld gaming for JRPGs like Persona/SMT/Final Fantasy series and other retro games. I have a Playstation and Switch for current console generation games, so what I can't play there, I play here.

I don't need this to be a high end gaming machine, but I love how it has an option for an eGPU if I decide I want it to have better graphics/resolution. Time intensive games like SMT and Persona are best played with a handheld option, giving us the best flexibility and opportunity to play whenever we have the time, wherever we are ( i.e I can play in my desk or I can take it to the bedroom to get some play time before I sleep, etc).

I also needed a Windows machine since my work computer is a Mac, so it is a pretty flexible and compact machine for multiple uses. I went with the dock as well, but I added a "magsafe" USB-C connector so I don't have to remove the silicon sleeve whenever I want to dock the Win 3.

Just got my win3 a few days ago, and suddenly the rumble motors are running non-stop, even when it says it is powered off. Eventually it stops after a while. But as soon as I hit the power button it starts vibrating again - even in the BIOS menu.

Also notable: keyboard no longer lights up nor functions.

Am currently on the fence if I should go for a GPD Win Max or Win 3 since both of them have eGPU compatibility.

Appreciate the review. Does the screen click against the keyboard when you play for intense gaming moments?I love how small it is, I playing fighting games so this is the best ive seen so far for portability.

Is the d-pad pretty responsive? As long as it can play fighting games like dead or alive 6 or soul calibur 6 that would be amazing.

Hey man have you tried checking how long does it take to charge the device from 0 to 100%. Gpd is claiming it to be only 1.5 hrs lol

Anybody who decides to buy this thing, just keep in mind the first thing you want to do is replace the cheap SSD they put in it it's pure garbage, so plan on spending another $120 on a decent SSD and then it'll actually run good, otherwise you will have a system that crashes and that has to be reset many times and that is glitchy.
