Outdoor Storage Bench // Woodworking How To | I Like To Make Stuff

This outdoor storage bench is a very simple woodworking project!

We've got a pool, so we also have LOTs of pool noodles and other backyard stuff. In an effort to hide the pool supplies and toys away when not in use, I made this SUPER simple outdoor storage bench out of basic lumber from the home center. It's made to stay outside, house things that don't mind getting wet (like pool noodles) and can be built in an afternoon.

Yes, I am moving! This was built at our current home as a way to tidy up the backyard as we prepare it for sale. The bench will stay at this house.

Looks good Bob! the only thing I'd change is when laying the deck boards out is to have the exposed surface of the deck boards be the crown of the wood grain. For longevity, as the boards move around the pith, you want the board to take a crown shape instead of a cup shape. This prevents water from laying on the boards

Hey, Bob, I don't even know what half the tools you use are or build any of this stuff, but I still love watching these amazing projects come together and it inspires me to persevere even when there are mistakes in life that I make! Thanks!

I need to build one of these so bad. I like the design. Clean and easy to build and looks good too.

Are you using an agent of DIY'ing the sale? We are doing the same thing right now. House looks like a bomb went off as we are packing everything up and getting ready to stage it.

I'm glad I ran across this video today. My daughter and son-in-law are going to have a pool installed and they will need some storage space for pool items. This is the perfect solution. I have all the tools needed and my son-in-law is a great helper. I'm sure if we had all materials on hand, we could build something like this in half a day.
BTW, I love the bike t-shirt. I've never seen one quite like that. Since you obviously are a cyclist, you will know what I mean when I tell you I am and old guy and I now ride a 'bent and love it. With degenerative disk disease in my upper and lower back it just became too painful to ride an upright, but the 'bent has enabled me to keep riding into my 70s.

Hallelujah. Thanks for making it simple, everything else is so overbuilt and overwhelming.

Very well thought out design and construction. This bin was already tested in its previous iteration, so it's really a "should-be" rather than just a "has been"!

That is the driest pressure treated wood I have ever seen! Congrats on that find.

Just last night my wife was looking at buying an outdoor sofa for the patio, I think this might be a better option considering this will have storage.  Thanks for sharing.

List of quantities, sizes and dimensions pleeeease!
You did mention in the video that you used 2x4x10' and the 1x4's were 12' and used the remaining 2' to cover the sides so I'm assuming the width is 2' but what about the height

Bob you do amazing projects all the time and I watch every single video even though I sometimes don't even have the intention of building the thing you make but I just really enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the awesome work! 😊

Nice work man

I like that kind of projects.
Only thing that bothering me are mechanical joints. Screws. I use them too but always making sure that i hide them.
Thanks and good luck

Really like the simplicity of this one! We're going to try to do a few limited tool videos since one of the most frequent comments we get are about not having all the tools needed for a project

I'm very impressed that you didn't fall into the pool while building the bench! I would have so tripped and fell in within the first 20 min! Love this idea! Can't wait to see your new shop!

i love building stuff that my parents could use every day, makes me feel good when i see their faces light up at what i've created. My father needs this for his pool. so i think im going to build a 5 foot long one (as he doesnt have a very large amount of pool stuff). thanks for the inspiration! Keep doing what you're doing, you're great at it!
