thanks for all your videos, Joel. they're really helping me get into the hobby... wondering if you ever have an initial positive experience with a game and then find after a few more plays you get sick of it? how many plays do you usually hope to get out of a game?

Sure. I think each game has a shelf life to some extent. I think I would be in good shape to get 10 plays out of a game just to pick a number out of the air, but it depends on the type of game. Fillers usually get played a lot more of course.
