Investigations Surrounding President Trump Take Dramatic Turns

On Thursday, an appeals court removed the Special Master put in place to review the thousands of documents seized by the FBI at Mar-a-Lago in August. Then on Friday former White House Counsel Pat Cipollone and his former deputy, Pat Philbin spent several hours testifying in front of a federal grand jury. What could this all mean for the Former President?

Cannon should not be permitted to simply slink back into the shadows, where she can still make a mockery of the justice system with her baseless rulings.
This person has repeatedly been shown up by the Appeals Court for ignoring the laws she is actually meant to uphold.
It's not enough to have her admonished, or to pretend that she's somehow learned her lesson from having most of her rulings in this case overturned.
What she's done here is, in the most spectacular fashion, show that she cannot be trusted to be fair and balanced in her rulings. That she will make judgments that favour anyone who shares her own political biases (regardless of whether there is any merit in doing so).
The truly shameful thing is that the political side that she favours will do nothing to see that she is removed from her position on the bench, because they will be losing an ally.
This example demonstrates quite starkly why it is that politicians should not be allowed to control judicial appointments and removals.

your panel forget to mention that in this process, DT admitted he stole the documents by packing them into his personal boxes. He packed them into those boxes, not an aide, not by accident, but on purpose with the idea that they are his. That is something he can not get back from.

Neal, thank you for your rephrasing of the opening statement -- it was a good week for the rule of law and democracy! Finally! -- a viewpoint that's focused on the right thing.

As far as how bad the week was for Aileen Cannon, I wonder how bad it could really be. What *real* consequences for her lawless actions does she face? Nothing substantial from what I can tell. She's a federal judge with a lifelong appointment that is in no jeopardy. For the rest of her life she can cause potential miscarriages of justice in the court, all without *meaningful* consequence. All other non-privileged citizens pay a real price when they break the law.

The worst part of the week, as pointed out on Meidas Touch, was Donald Trump used the special master delay to repeatedly make self-incriminating statements, the kind of things that would be hard to get from him if he was called to testify, and could plead the fifth.
