CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Clair (Michelle Pfeiffer) is haunted by an eerie spirit in her bathroom.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this supernatural thriller, a woman believes that a visitor from another dimension is trying to guide her into a sinister mystery. Feeling lonely after her daughter leaves home for college, Claire (Michelle Pfeiffer) begins to sense that something is wrong in her house, and feels a spirit is trying to contact her. At first her husband Norman (Harrison Ford), a scientist doing research in genetics, attributes her paranormal beliefs to stress or possibly a nervous breakdown, and sends her to a psychiatrist (Joe Morton) who puts no more stock in Claire's stories than does Norman. While Claire's contention that someone or something sinister is afoot leads her down a number of blind alleys, in time she becomes convinced that the mysterious happenings at her home are somehow connected to the disappearance of a woman who was a student at the nearby college -- and bore a striking resemblance to Claire. What Lies Beneath marked the debut of screenwriter Clark Gregg, whose script is based on a story by himself and Sarah Kernochan; the supporting cast includes Diana Scarwid as Claire's best friend Jody, and James Remar and Miranda Otto as a contentious couple living next door.

I like this movie because it's not a horror movie, there's no blood and such, or monsters or anything, just suspense, and psychological suspense... things that are realistic, in a way.

They don’t make movies like this any longer. A true suspense movie that had you on the edge of your seat. The bathroom scenes are epic.

In my opinion, the most realistic ghost movie ever.

I think one of the most frightening aspects of this film is that the character played by Michelle Pfeiffer is completely alone in this big house with unnerving unexplained incidents taking place.

Did anyone else see the face in the water at 1:17 that moved away as the camera was panning in?

"Okay ghost, I know you're trying to tell me something or whatever but all you're doing is wasting all my hot water. Now what's haunting me the most is the water bill next month. So if you got something to say, just say it."

I miss this kind of mysterious quiet kind of eerie horror. That has some realism without being over the top in your face blood and gore.

This movie was not only the correct horror movie, but also very sad from my POV. I liked Norman and Claire so much.

I love Alan Silvestri’s soundtrack in this movie, esp. the use of those high violin notes...reminds you of Bernard Herrmann’s soundtracks from Hitchcock’s movies..

At 0.58 you can see the ghost of Madison in the bathroom mirror, she appears at the left of the mirror and moves across and fades in the middle right before Michelle makes a startled gasp.

Madison Elizabeth Frank must have been a huge fan of the movie The Shining when she was alive. That would explain why her ghost would write "You Know" with creepy, blood like lettering. Not sure why her ghost was harassing Claire, I get that she was trying to seek vengeance for her own murder but damn! There were other ways she could have gotten her message across.

I really enjoyed this film. Yes, Harrison Ford was the villain in this but he did very well. Like I was actually hating him when he paralyzed Claire. He and Michelle did a wonderful job. That girl, Madison, omg, she was gorgeous. I wish we could've seen flashbacks when Norman actually started to confess to murdering her.
