Land Rover Freelander 2/ Soft Roader Self Recovery -Solving Self Recovery Gear Weight Issues

I have a very efficient self recovery system, however the whole kit weighs 26.5kg (58lb) so I decided to divide it up to save weight. The kit needed for me to winch myself out using 4 snatchblocks is in one bag and now weighs just 14.4kg (32lb). The rest of the gear is the stuff you need a second vehicle for, snatch strap etc. If I was travelling in convoy there is no need to bring the self recovery kit. I save several kilos by leaving two D-Shackles on the vehicle permanently. The risk of theft is low and I would check they were still there before setting out as part of my vehicle checks (Army training coming back here). It would be nice to include the winch extension strap in the self recovery kit but it is heavy and I'm already carrying the Bog Out ladders in the spare wheel well so they can extend my reach to a suitable anchor. Speaking of which, I'm working on a portable tree arrangement in case I'm in the desert or there are no suitable anchor points available. Stay tuned! NOTE: at 3:20 I point to the wrong snatchblock. The heavier one is the one to the left of the one I point to. That is 3.3kg compared to 2.8kg each for the other three.
