Soldier Boy is simultaneously the most badass, hilarious, and also the deepest and most introspective character in the series thus far. Literally, he is the only character in the entire show who is able to reflect on his own flaws and inadequacies and actually do something about it. All he wanted to meet his father's unrealistic expectations of him, and when he just couldn't, he volunteered to receive the super serum to try to make himself better, but even that didn't work. Then he sees Homelander, a more powerful version of himself, but flawed in all the same ways, except worse: he doesn't even crave the approval of a father figure, he just craves it in general. And when Soldier Boy sees this, and recognizes that he's fueled by the same ego and need for external approval that once drove him to make terrible decisions, he breaks down. That scene in Vought Tower at the end of season 3 is excellent, because it depicts one of the most profound character development moments in the entire series in about a 30 second window.
