I have a study abroad semester in Germany this upcoming Fall, and since my Dell XPS 15 give me various technical issues last semester, I decided to treat myself and get a MacBook for the remainder of my degree. The issue I have is that I over-analyze everything, especially when it comes to the money I'm going to spend. I kid you not, I have spent the last few weeks trying to decide if I want a Pro or an Air, and I have seen every single YouTube video under the sun regarding this topic.

It wasn't until I watched this video that I finally felt the peace and clarity I needed to come to a decision. I've decided the MacBook Air will more than certainly suit my needs and is enough for what I'll need the next few semesters, even though the speakers do worry me. Still, thank you Dayo for your piece, you've earned yourself one more subscriber!

I still use my M2 mini 16GB. I gave my custom build to my brother. I moved away from gaming and the stupid/toxic community. Now I focus on my first love, making music & playing guitar/bass.
I saved on electric bill too.

Would definitely like to see your homelab setup! Refreshing video about a pragmatic use case. So many videos I see with people that say that they need the max and the ultra. This doesn’t make sense to me since most jobs will give job a powerful enough model. The air is fine. Only thing that I’ve grown to appreciate is a bigger screen like in the 15”.

I’m still rocking my m1 air base spec I even run Logic Pro with multiple plugins and no issues it’s so well optimized just an amazing machine.

This is the realest and most refreshing take on how much computer one really needs. You've earned a subscriber.

I've been lusting after a MacBook and recently the SnapDragon X laptops. Stepping back, i have to acknowledge that my Acer Chromebook Spin 713 (2020) still does 99% of what I need it for.

I think the mac pro is more for those kind of people who just want to carry only one device and do not use any other additional pc/laptops at home 🤔

i appreciate you giving a take like this especially as a tech youtuber as its pretty rare in the space, the air is super versatile and you really only need the pro if you have a definite use case for it. im also one of the people that thinks 8gb of ram is still fine in base macbook models for most people

I have had my M1 MBA since 2020 and I am probably not going to be upgrading as it still does what I need it to for my photo editing.

"Is the computer good enough for me?" THAT is the question! I've had the base M2 Air since launch day and it is definitely good enough for me. That's all that matters. Great video and new sub.

For the system data I would recommend showing hidden files in finder, and then going to library and cleaning out your caches, mainly the google chrome one that is probably over 50gb

The system data issue for storage was a problem I had on my M1 MacBook Pro, especially since I used it for all my video editing over the past few years. I was able to clear up most of it after deleting what was essentially a bunch of Premiere Pro backup files living back in cache folders. If there's apps that auto-backup, you can check those folders and delete them to free up a bunch of space.

Excellent outro!
Slick!
I was looking at a Mac mini, but when Apple Silicon was first announced I fell in love with the M1 MacBook Air that was introduced at the same time. I'm convinced this is the pinnacle of MacBook Air design.
This is everything the 2014 MacBook wanted to be but it was saddled with that pathetic intel Core-M CPU.
The newer MacBook Airs don't even LOOK like MacBook Airs.
I bought my M1 MacBook Air eight months ago with double the RAM and double the storage as future proofing and it's what I'm used to on my old MacBook Pro, the last one with an internal optical drive and ALL the ports.
The reviews for the base level M1 MacBook Air generally agreed that it was all anyone would need for at least 90% of Mac users. My sister is a teacher and she's utterly delighted with hers.
Luke Miani recently talked about the 16" MacBook Pro, one of the last with and intel chip, that is an amazing laptop but is now selling for about the same as the base M1 MacBook Air.
I'm not not sure I didn't overpay for my M1 MacBook Air because I'm not certain I'll ever really use the extra Ram and storage. The speakers on this Mac are surprisingly good.

That was a very on point video with no blabbering about useless info to increase the video length. Kudos! You’ve earned a new subscriber. By the way, should I buy an AppleCare+ for MacBook Air M1 because I’ve seen a lot of logicboard failure cases which Apple charges a lot to replace

I have MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2012, bought it in 2013). I'm using it mostly for web browsing, social media and typing some documents. I'm planning to hand it down to my younger sibling. Still choosing between the Mac Air 13" M2 or just an iPad (and accessories).
