sling vs watermelon (25 meters)

Round two slinging at a watermelon from 80 feet away with my homemade (balearic style) sling. Took me like a million throws but its a good challenge for me. Also I did edit out at least 30 other misses and kept the cool ones for the video

Can you imagine how good a little shepherd boy could get with one of these, just idly practicing with it for fun while he watches sheep, nothing else to do, a few hours a day EVERY day from when he was 6 until he was 15?

Imagine thousands of these dudes, hurling stones or lead at you. Accuracy wouldn't matter at that point. Super sick

I can appreciate that he didn't edit to make it look like it was a 1/1 shot and hit. Well done sir.

Find a girlfriend patient enough to film you throwing rocks all day.

Imagine being a bird, just chilling out in those woods behind and then Gary, your boy from a few nests down who you knew since hatching is sent to the shadow realm

Medieval weapons are obviously never going to stand up against their modern counterparts (lethal or non lethal) but when looked at in an historical context, slings must have been an amazingly useful weapon.
Cheap, easy to equip and carry. Then when you consider it might have taken this guy a few days to dial in the accuracy and power then compare that to soldiers who spent YEARS training and using this weapon it shouldn't be hard to appreciate the sling and its impact on the battlefields of the ancient past.
Nice demonstration thank you.

Do this for hours every day none stop for years. I've seen guys get some insanely consistent accuracy and you can truly see how people used to hunt with a sling

Compliments to the chick filming. If that's your girlfriend she's definitely a keeper to be so patient. Well done by the way!

Very skilled. That is a very small target at 25 meters even for a bow and arrow for most people. For sling it is a veteran sniper shoot. And you shot full throttle as it is meant to be. Congratulations.

I've got a lot of respect for this guy. Seeing how hard it is also really makes me appreciate the David vs Goliath story more.

Love the crack noise it makes when you let it go!

This gives the whole David and Goliath myth a different perspective. Maybe not just a a story after all.

Roman soldiers had to be proficient with the sling. Could you imagine an entire Legion slinging rocks like this what sound it would make. Your girl did a great job recording! She was patient and made sure to get the shot.

Great job

Mad respect for your gf who stood there half the day in the sun filming you trying to hit that watermelon. Relationship goals KEK

You can see he is getting better and better each shot, and this is probably under 1hr, imagine someone practicing this for years…the accuracy must be insane.

Btw, many people think this was a weak and inferior weapon when compared to the bow. Not actually, slings were very powerful and the impact of one of those stones CAN BE comparable to a .38 cal bullet. Also they don't require the massive muscle mass required by archery (no, archers weren't wimpy dudes, try and pull a 100lbs warbow and tell me if a wimp would be able to do that).
One of the main reasons for their discontinuation is shown in this video: unreliable accuracy. You could get reasonably accurate with one of these, but that would require extensive training over many years.
Bows also required extensive training but could be accurate more reliably.
Eventually guns, that (initially) required very little training to use and also required little muscle mass while packing a powerful punch overcame everything else...

Imagine that SNAP! was the last thing Goliath heard.
