Xiaomi Mi 9 Review: Quietly solid

With all of the crazy phones coming out right now, it is nice to come back to a phone that just gets many of the fundamentals right. The Xiaomi Mi 9 might not be the most exciting phone these days, but it still deserves to be considered alongside the other flagships.

The saturation in phone industry is blinding.

Even in the design, Same 3 cameras some on the side some in the center.

I have the 6/128gb variant and i must say, even for a heavy gamer like me, the 6gb is more than enough, this beast flies through every game/application you throw at it! glad i've chosen this over the galaxy s10e

Miui has no app drawer? I just made a folder and placed it in middle of the dock at the bottom and dumped all my apps I don't often use there.

The head of Redmi(Xiaomi sub-brand - like Honor is to Hauwei) "tweeted" from one of those Chinese versions of twitter "$400 USD seems much for a flagship device. Don't you think?". Dude, we're getting a bezeless SD855 devices that's going to cost less than $400🤣. What a time to be alive!

I have the mi 9 for a month now. It really is amazing for the price, considering some flagship are almost double the price!

Got it 4 days ago, and it has been remarkably good. Using Nova Launcher makes the transition to MIUI pretty painless. Runs games as well as my old Razer phone, but I've noticed the Mi 9 has vastly better cell reception and call quality. I live in the midwest (USA) and have been super pleased with T-Mobile reception. I know that cameras have gotten really good, but I think this one still pulls its weight in the flagship tier. I've had Pixel (1, ) Razer, and Honor in the past - and the Mi 9 camera is the best by a mile. For the price, it's hard to beat in the US. Period.

You make great videos, Joshua! Your ability to make a phone I have never heard of become a phone I want to experience for myself. For me that makes you genius at what you do! Thanks so much for sharing.

I have been using Mi 9 for a few months now and I just love this phone. I have been to local store to compare it with Samsung's, Huawei, Apple's flagships and honestly I prefer MI 9 simple, elegant look over the other phones. MIUI is my favorite Android variants and enjoy it very much. If App drawer is any good Apple would definitely included it in iOS. :-)
I live in Denmark and here Xiaomi is unfortunately not known brand to people. I guess some advertising should be done as Huawei did. On the other hand Huawei's popularity is growing very fast and now Trump destroyed that just 👏 like that.

Am using a cheap Xiaomi Redmi 3s phone as my daily driver now which I bought as a spare and traveling phone after my expensive Flagship got stolen. Must say I am impressed with battery life and softwarewise I am having no issues at all... very pleased indeed!
Nice review, good work as always... keep it up!

After 4 years with my iPhone 6s plus (and previously switching from my Samsung S3 before that), I decided to go ahead with the Xiaomi 9. It's been several years since I had an Android device and was curious about how much had changed. I like iOS alot but I wanted to try something new. Anyway, I've used my Xiaomi 9 for about a month and for the most part, it has met my expectations. Yes, the battery life is a little disappointing (for example, it can drop 2-3% in an hour just idling) so you have to learn how to properly manage your power. Though fast charging is super quick! Sure, there is no headphone jack but I'm fine using the adapter included (because I still prefer wired rather than bluetooth ). The fingerprint reader works about 8/10 of the time. Of course, Android OS is still Android so it won't be as smooth as iOS BUT I saved hundreds of dollars if I had purchased the latest iPhone. For less than the price of an XR, the Xiaomi 9 gives me the latest and fastest Snapdragon processor, a nice camera with several lenses including 2x telephoto and 1 wide-angle, AMOLED screen (blacks are beautiful) etc. Though the problem here (at least in China) is that Xiaomi has a reputation of being "cheap" phones so people here are quite biased. My co-worker looked my phone for a second and said "the screen isn't as good as his iPhone" and he has an iPhone 6s! I'm happy with my purchase and if Apple decides not to be so damn greedy and lower the prices of their phones, I'll think about going back (because Facetime and iMessage are not blocked in China) but for now, Xiaomi 9 has been a winner for me! :)

I'm more than happy with my mi max 3. 10 hours of screen on time and 22% battery left! Huge screen and smooth interface. I also like the Redmi note 7 that's a smaller more manageable phone.
