Now that AJ lost, we might have a chance to see AJ vs Wilder now

I would argue that the age of American Heavyweight champions ended in the 90s when Lennox Lewis started running the division, then after him it was the Klichko Brothers, then like one or two random americans, then Fury, Joshua and now Usyk.

Right now the Eastern Europeans and Brits are having a good run and not just in the HW division. I say the more the merrier. It's cool to see fighters from all over the world.

Wilder's chicken legs looked _even_ more chicken-leggy in that last fight than I've ever seen them.

Americans were fortunate that the commissions and money was in the US.
These days, the sport is much more global and people all over the world are finally given an opportunity to fight at the top level. No one country would really dominate again, too global

Like Dempsey said, u cant predict where the next great fighter will come from you just got to appreciate them when he gets here. He made that statement when Johansson defeated Patterson

This is what happens when sport becomes international. This was always going to happen.

The problem with american boxing is a problem with our amateur boxing programs, we used to have boxing clubs all over the country that you could learn boxing for cheap funded by the state, but those are all gone now

If Wilder wasn't an American he wouldn't even have become a champion.

can't wait for them to call the era that doesn't include any american heavyweights a weak era like they did with supermiddle back in the day

Americans dominated while boxing was mainly played by Americans. It's that simple. with the fall of the iron curtain it became a global sport and the US couldn't keep up.

It seems to me now that we still can see Wilder vs AJ))))

Wilder himself use to play basketball in college, that gives you an idea of where the boxers are today. He spent about half of his life focusing on basketball. He only join boxing because of the immediate need for money. Where other countries have a full blown boxing culture, that americans lost mostly.

10 title defenses against not a single fighter in the top 10 is sad. It taints the idea of double digit defenses

This guy hasnt heard of the Klitschkos lol..

America HWs were over a long time ago mate, Lennox was the top dog, then the Klitchkos took over for a decade until Fury finally ended that era. Wilder was fighting nobodies his whole career until his management saw a broken down overweight Fury and thought it was an opportunity.

AJ blew the fight by trying to be his demolisher self against DDD.

Those Fights between Fury and Wilder took pieces of both of them, they will never be the same. Those were wars that they were in.
