This is such an interesting topic because like you I see a ton of negativity about ports on the internet, but at the end of the day they still sell extremely well. Just goes to show that the vocal minority on Twitter doesn't really affect what the Switch users will actually buy. It is a bummer for long time Nintendo fans since it feels like we aren't getting any new games, but for a lot of people these basically are new games. Great vid as always!

I think the underrated aspect of ports is the handheld aspect. When I got Super Mario All-Stars and played Mario Sunshine as if I was playing it on a DS or a Gameboy would have blow my childhood mind

I’m glad Nintendo ported a lot of Wii U games because the fact that they were on a failing console didn’t really give them a chance, and I feel some Wii games deserved a second life on the switch, but I also think Nintendo should only port games that deserve it and balance that out with new games as well.

Another thing is that the vast majority of ports have been Wii U games and The Wii U barely sold so people never got a chance to play these games and the Wii U had a very good library. I didn't own a wii u so every time it was announced that a game like Tropical Freeze or Mario Kart or 3D world was coming I was so happy. Always amused me to see everyone else complaining so much about it and it's funny that they still sell so well regardless

Well since the Wii U was a failure, and the switch is a major success. There are more people with switches therefore more people buying the copies. Not to mention switch owners can take any of the games on the go. And if people enjoy games like Mario oddessy or Legend of Zelda of breath of the wild they will buy any other game with the name on it because they want to dive deeper into the franchise.

And because of this video I still hope we get a Zelda 35 Collection with at least Twilight Princess and Wind Waker.

It's a good thing that they brought the WiiU games to the Switch, because a lot of people didn't get the WiiU, but as a WiiU user, I'm not really excited of these, because they are quite much, and Nintendo isn't making much things behind (like a new Mario Kart game for example).

To celebrate the Zelda 35th anniversary I am playing Links Awakening Switch and Skyward Sword HD to get the full classic Zelda experience with dungeons, locked doors and dungeon items. :).

It is not about port actually. It is about The game. And I bought The ports because they are like a new game for me. An example if they port bad wii u games like Amiibo festival it wouldn’t sell good. But Nintendo makes really good games so it is always succesful.

Here's another reason why I think ports sell well despite so many people getting mad: Those people are just hypocrites. They say "Oh, don't buy this game it's not worth it, if you buy it then you suck" and then buy it themselves.

Plot twist they are only successful because of switch stop

I think the main reason Mario kart sold super well may have been because it said deluxe in the title. People want premium things, whether it be subconsciously or just straight up, they want them. And when something says deluxe, and it’s the same price as something else, it just makes sense.

Also maybe because it’s Mario kart

It kinda makes sense but I prefer new games more

I hate how people hate on Nintendo for dumb reasons like the Nintendo MINI direct the live chat was annoying and unwatchable

Y'know, they should port Paper Mario Color Splash on Switch, they can fix the battle system and put a secondary story with Luigi and the Black Paint as a standalone villain(I'd like to call him "Black Pain")

You also need to factor in that not everyone who buys a port realises it is a port, or has been on a previous nintendo console. Since there might be a lot of new Nintendo Switch fans that isn't aware of Nintendo's past history.
I remember that happened to me once where I bought Mario and Luigi Superstar saga for 3DS and didn't realise that it was originally on the Gameboy until I was over halfway through the game itself.

F-Zero port? That'd sell well and be easy to make 🥰
