The UH-1Y is exclusively produced in the US and has been exclusively used by the US military up until 2023. The UH-1Y crash sites are almost undeniably US forces. The name for the infected seen at the crashes are quite literally named "usSoldier" in the game files.
The gas strikes are not "proof of Chernarus/Livonia being the only areas affected". The gas strikes are likely done by local government, with your proof being in the Livonia bunker.
There is absolutely NOTHING that states that Chernarus or Livonia are the only places affected by the outbreak The outbreak having affected Sakhal proves this.
You do hear pops, but no, they are not the helicopter being hit by AA. - and only ONE model makes a popping noise before crashing. On top of this, there are no active AA units within range of the crash sites that occur in Chernarus nor Livonia, nor do you hear them being fired in the distance like you do the gas strikes. Chernarus especially is a poor, post-soviet country that does not have defenses like an iron dome.
And most important of all - the infected are NOT undead. The passengers didn't die in the crash and reanimate as infected, that's just now how the DayZ universe works... at least ONE person on that helicopter turned midflight and attacked the remaining healthy passengers. During that chaos, they may have hit opened fire, damaged a component, hit a tree/rock formation - there is plenty more possibilities for this noise than just "AA".

Assuming that Dayz takes place after or during the Arma 2 campaign, it would make sense for USMC forces to accompany the MI-8 just like CDF forces would be on board a UH-1Y (wow was not expecting 1k likes thanks guys)

I love that dayz is just zombie arma II, so for a bit i’d say start of the week I liked thinking the crash sites as “The last string of hope” from the soldiers on Arma II attempting to save us, only to be hearing the gun shots every time followed by some unfortunate explosion leading you to the result of them all becoming infected soldiers.

I would super love to get into DayZ because its lore and the like seems super cool but its always seemed so hard to get into what with the knowledge of the playerbase being so shoot on sight/hostile. That and the one time I tried to play running around a coastline for three whole lives unable to find a single item
