Andros | About Andros. Chora, built on a small peninsula that lies to the east coastline of the island between Neiborio and Paraporti beaches, is 35 km east of Gavrio Port. Visitors can go by bus, taxi or rental. The town's architecture conveys the nuance of the islands historical ages that combines Venetian, Byzantine and Ottoman rule.

The gateway to the old city has been preserved and gives visitors a sense of medieval homage that harmoniously interlaces the contemporary scene of it's shops, cafes and bars. The town is known for it's leisurely and relaxed atmosphere where fine cuisine, art and views can be enjoyed.

Andros Town has three squares: the first is Goulandris square, the most central one, also known as The Nursing Home Square. In it's centre lies the memorial of the Fallen, while at the backround you can see the Nursing Home and the City Hall. The second is a stone paved square surrounded with many cafes, little restaurants and pastry shops, all shadowed by a huge plane tree. The third one is paved with marble, has a statue of the "Unknown Sailor" and an amazing view of the sea and the rest of the town. This square, however, is host to a great landmark of the island, the beautiful Venetian-style stone bridge connecting Andros Town to a tiny islet supporting the remains of an old castle, built during the Venetian period to defend the city in 1207.

Chora has a famous reputation for it's artistic heritage, since it houses an array of fine museums. During the summer months, the Museum of Modern Art exhibits works of famous Greek and international artists.
