This catadioptric lens has a delicious Donut Bokeh, that creates a unique look. Unlike every other lens of this kind that I have tested - this one actually has good sharpness, contrast and flare control!

Thanks to KASE for sending out your first lens to me to check out, and for sponsoring this video.

This was REALLY well covered Matt. All the beautiful shots, but the geeky details too, you really did this video exceptionally well.

I love the different bokeh and although I wouldn't have this lens in my kit for every shoot it would be great when looking for unique perspectives of iconic sites or when wanting to generate more imaginative / creative shots directly in camera. Thanks for such a comprehensive review Matt 👍🙏

Thanks for the nice review😊
The bokeh and feel/perception of the portraits shots with this lens is rather weird, disturbing and dreamy at the same time😮😊 something very unique 🙂🙂 not sure if it is for every day and every one, but can be a good artistic addition to 200mm portrait shots...

Haven’t seen a catadioptric lens in a while 😮

I do like mirror lenses - you simply cannot get those longer focal lengths at such a low weight. But you do have to be very deliberate in how you shoot it if you want the best. Very tricky to get right, but fun when you play to its strength. I hope they can work their way up to longer reaches, the potential is there.

I really like the image coming out of the is lens loads of character, seems sharp enough

if only manufacturers would go the fresnel lens route and improving that method instead of mirrored lenses. I just feel like this is a pro grade lens that needs way to much time, effort and failures to master - and then you still have compositions that aren't suitable for many peoples taste

I still have a Nikon 1000/11 that I haven’t used in a while. I recently bought a Nikon D700, I’m going to try out the lens at a soccer match when the light is bright enough.

Haven't seen a mirror lens in a while. Cheaper long telephotos used them when I first started doing photography. But, no one liked the circles for out of focus background highlights and they eventually went the way of the dodo. Interesting lens, but I doubt it will be around long.

Is this Matt's new favorite 200mm prime? 😂😂😂

I know, they're different, like comparing apples and oranges. Except in this kase, they're so different that it's more like an apple and a grape.

does it have electonic contacts for exif and ibis?

Haha it is tiny! Reminds me of my Sigma 16mm f1.4
One of the sharpest catadioptric lens I've seen so far!

The slightly out of focus video of the basketball players reminded me of the MTV videos featuring techno beat music.

Excellent option for those who don't like mirrorless cameras! 🤪

Cool video :-) From a portable wildlife / bird lens perspective it would be interesting to see what their coatings / design expertise could do in a 500mm or 600mm F5, 6 lens… M

actually the Minolta 250mm f5.6 is smaller and precedes this by decades 😌
