A flowchart is a type of diagram that depicts a process or system. It uses conventional symbols and shapes like rectangles and diamonds to provide additional context and comprehension.

Rectangles diamonds for contexts and comprehension to show flow of processes and systems that can be confusing or complex. Diagram to show how something will work. Helpful for research. By breaking things down to symbols, we can identify specific steps simplify complex info and communicate faster.

ovals are terminators, even potential outcomes
rectangles are process, action or function symbols and they are the most widely used symbols in flowcharting.
Decision diamond makes a fork in the road. Written in yes or no, or true or false format.
D is a delay symbol to show the passage of time during a process. Like a snooze duration.
To give the process direction or sequence we connect them using lines, or connectors, to indicate the the flow of the process.

Then we have the document symbol to symbolize the input or output of a document

We also have the off page connector/link shape to connect separate elements across multiple pages.
Swim lanes can help us identify when a process leads into, or influences another.

To make a successful flow chart, here are 5 steps to follow:
Define your purpose and scope (WHY)
Identify tasks and place them in chronological order
format tasks by type and correspond to correct symbol
Draw chart
confirm chart
