For those wondering why the curse exists:

Ksaver explains to Zeke that the Founder can alter the bodies of all Eldians as if they're part of one organism. When Zeke goes intimate the Paths, he learns why this is. Life, the creature, changes form to always find a way to exist. Ymir found it and they fused, creating a body that would never die, which is how she became a titan. When she was stabbed by the spear, she wished to die and go to a world free of death. This was the ultimate solution to Life's problem. However, Kimg Fritz ordered her to split between her descendents, creating more titans with fragmented versions of her body. Natural titans became immortal and baby-like, but shifters got her human body with the power to become a titan. This consequently means they also inherit the type of body that dies after 13 years of suffering to escape to a world without death. This is why shifters still exist in the Paths, as well as other Eldians.

So, the short answer is that Ymir wanted an immortal body that would die after 13 years, and that's the type of body titan shifters also get.

Another theory is that a titan shifter DOESN'T actually die after 13 years. In AOT history there hasn't been a titan shifter that has fallen victim to this due to them being eaten before 13 years has passed. An urban legend all because Ymir died after 13 years.

It's crazy how all the titan rules are basically just an echo of her life. Even being cannibalized because King Fritz believed he could get her power back that way. To the weak point being the nape because she was pierced there on her death.

13 years, so she got the titan at like 12-14 and had 3 kids between that time and her death. That means she was 25-27 at the time of her death and her daughter's looked like they range between 5-11 so King fritz got her pregnant around 14-16, wtf

Wouldn’t the curse of Ymir have wiped out the Tybur family? They held onto the war hammer titan, but if one of them had to die every thirteen years, would that not have eventually led up to their extinction?

When we finished the anime we were joking around that the lesson of the entire thing is to rid yourself of toxic relationship cuz this whole thing wouldn't have happened if Ymir would've used her power to remove Fritz fm her life

I've been a lot of people wondering what would have happened if she didn't die at 13 years exactly like what if she died of natural causes or what if she died centuries later, and discovered more and more potential and abilities of the Titan powers could give and could do and what the capabilities are. That's an interesting fact to actually know. Could you see if she never died at 13 years? Exactly? Maybe it wouldn't be a curse, maybe it would be a gift. Of eternal life and unlimited power. I wish someone could do "What if" about this.

My personal theory is that the curse of ymir is only for 13 years because she died after 13 years after gaining the founder titan
