As long as people with more money than brains keep paying these ridiculous prices, dealers will keep charging these ridiculous prices. This is a self inflicted wound.

The dealers can't rip you off if you don't buy. They can keep them.

Here in SoCal a Toyota Dealer was selling a new top of the line Grand Highlander for over $10, 000 above MSRP. Time for Manufactures to start implementing Direct Sale!

In December of last year I purchased a new Silverado at $5500 in total savings. They did add a GPS tracking device at $249. I refuse to pay markups. I just won’t buy a car if that’s the case.

Stiil pushing my 2012 yaris. Just went over 97, 000 miles. Going to put about $2, 000 in it and keep pushing. Miss me with these prices. A friend just traded his his 2016 Lexus Suv for a 2023 Silverado costing him $70, 000 after trade in. Credit Union would not finance. So he went through GMAC. Madness!

Not only are some dealerships still charging mark ups, but I noticed some are also tacking on ridiculously high dealer add ons like nitrogen, GPS tracker, etc. even on high mileage used vehicles SMH. I’ve also seen inflated doc fees ($800 or more) and dealership “service fee” which I was told at one dealership that their $250 fee is to pay the salesman since they don’t get paid on commission. It could be awhile before I ever consider buying a another vehicle as long as this craziness continues.

Dealers need to get called out on this. I've been trying to price out Ford Mavericks. I know they are in limited quantity, but it's gotten crazy with prices on these trucks, which are partly attractive because of their low price. Bowen Scarff Ford in Kent has XL models listed for $35k, which is almost 32% higher than MSRP. Pierre Ford has XLT models with a listed "Best Price" of over $41k, for a model with an MSRP of just under $32k. That's ridiculous. I hope people aren't paying that money for these trucks. It would be nice to avoid dealers that do this, but it seems it is universal, at least for Ford in the Seattle area.

You have to expand your area if you want decent and good deals. I've never bought a car in my area because the dealers are snobs and won't even attempt to make good deals. My area is national, but I prefer within a 500 mile radius. Whoever saves me money, that's where I'm going, I have had 3 new cars in the past 15 years I've gotten 3k or more off MSRP because I was willing to go to the right dealer. My first new car the local dealer wouldn't budge on price, I traveled 50 miles away and got a 21k car for 17k and got it service at the local dealer that wouldn't give me a good deal on it. The sales lady said, I see you got that Mazda 3, I said yep, she said why not with me?, I said you apparently thought I was playing games so I went to another dealer, she walked away and we never spoke again (I was getting an oil change).

Thanks for the constant heads up! These dealerships need to know we are informed and will not get gouged.

As long as people are willing to pay over MSRP then stealerships will keep doing it.
Direct sales is the future. I will shed no tears when dealerships as we know it disappear.

Our local GM dealer refuses to sell above MSRP! I prefer Fords, but my wife, daughter, and I, all bought new vehicles from GM last year. This GM dealership sells LOTS and LOTS of vehicles every day, while the other 4 dealerships in town, are slow.

It is 100% completely avoidable. If one currently has a reliable car, hold off on buying any new or used car until they fall down to or below MSRP.

They didn't lower their mark-ups. They raised their MSRPs.

thats why the lots are full of unsold vehicles.i say let them set there & rot.

I agree. I went to look at a new Ford EV pick up truck. $49k plus the normal add-ons. Another $49k MARKUP AS A PREMIUM ADD-ON. I laughed my way off the dealership lot.

With auto loan rates at the highest they've been in years, inventory has started to go up and once there's enough inventory then markups will go away and discounts will return.

They can mark up 100% of the MSRP. I will just not step onto their lot.

If you have a car now, keep it and don’t upgrade after 2 more years. If you need to repair do so. Repair cost mucj cheaper than upgrading. And if it is paid off you are good forever. Wait and wait to buy. Dealers are still playing with prices. Either they mark up higher and discount to make you think you get a good deal. Remember a car is a depreciation asset the more you pay the more money you lose to because it is a percentage
