Everyone is freaking out about what went down at the 2024 World Series of Poker Main Event final table. Jonathan Tamayo had a group of friends on the sidelines who were using laptops. Further investigation shows that they had poker engine software, and it's clear that they were coaching Tamayo on how to navigate this prestigious No Limit Hold'em Tournament. But is this against the rules? If so, what are the repercussions? And if not, what can we do about it? Let's dive in.

how TF was this allowed 15 meters from the final table.
Absolute disgrace.

Seems like a very straightforward issue. WSOP said no Solvers during tournament. I don't see anything ambiguous about that statement. Tomato should not have been allowed to kick it up a notch, by not only using solvers, but having a team of Pros manning the laptop. WSOP is at fault for not enforcing it's own rules. Shame on them.

i'm all for going back to the classic poker table just as if it was 1970. No charts, no phones, no laptops, no earbuds, no discussions with coaches just the player by themselves playing against the other players.

The final table could just be 9 laptops and all the players can be at the bar drinking.

What a disgrace to the WSOP and the tournament director not enforcing the rules, especially at the final table

How about this? No, none electronics at the table. NO phones, earbuds, ipods, PERIOD! Just play Poker.

Literally the dumbest sh!t that has ever been done in poker. Why even have a live event if you are going to run sims on a computer to make your moves? I’m totally against this.

My gut reaction seeing a guy run over to a laptop literally during play was that is completely absurd.

Would you want to watch a chess match where guys are running over to a laptop during the other guy’s move? This seems like an obvious decision.

THE FACT IT WAS DONE IN PLAIN DAYLIGHT AND PUBLICLY AND NO OFFICIAL REACTED-MINDBLOWING.

"Cheating" is the first word I think of when anyone mentions poker nowadays.

The whole chat in pokergo during this live was screaming about how his rail was blatantly using solvers. We watched it happen for HOURS, it was so obvious. It litterally looked like a 5v1.

The fact that this is done on live TV with millions watching, laptop on the rail, earpiece gets removed after he wins in front of everyone, sketchily handed to a guy in a Michigan hat (LOL) who then looks at the camera with the most guilty look I've ever seen. I don't play poker but this whole situation is ridiculous. He won't lose his title just like the Astros and Michigan didn't lose theirs after being found guilty of cheating....

It might be hard to look at thousands of tables during a game. But it is very easy to control it at the final table.

Even setting solvers aside, poker is not a team game. It's ridiculous that players at the final table of the Main Event can't play without help. The optics are TERRIBLE.

Griff should sue the State's gaming commission for not enforcing the rules that ensure fair play. A decent laywer would have their ass.

The guy that was handed the AirPod was looking like he had just been pulled out of the line in an airport with a kilo in his carry case

At roughly the 13:00 mark, Tomayo is clearly seen using his own hand on the touchscreen. This goes beyond having someone else with the chart. Tomayo used it. Seems like a clear cut violation.
