Love how you give the short answer/ conclusion within the 1st minute. It made me more likely to stick around for the details. Great flow to your videos

Funny how the BIGcreen Beyond is the small headset and the Crystal *Light* is huge one 😅 I would've bought the Beyond if it were an all inclusive package like the Crystal light, it's simply too much when we also need base stations and controllers. They both really need a bigger FOV though, we've been stuck in 100-110° since the CV1.

I have an HP Reverb G2. I really wanted to buy a Bigscreen Beyond for a long time, but the need to buy lighthouse stations and controllers made it more difficult to commit. And I probably still would have done it if it weren't for reviewers talking about the glare problem, upscaling to get 90 fps, etc. I heard about the Crystal Light a couple weeks back and pulled the trigger on it. It would really be nice if we could have the same clarity / great lenses / FOV, etc. of Crystal Light - but in a smaller form factor like the Beyond, but for now I'm excited to try Alyx, MSFS, etc with the Crystal Light. In 5 years I'm sure I'll upgrade again.

Also probably will be upgrading my Ryzen 5600X / RTX 3080 at the end of the year to 9800X3D / RTX 5090. Gonna need some power for this Crystal Light.

Do you need the controllers if you don't play stuff that require them? I only use VR for sim racing but I have a Quest 3 looking to get a Crystal Light. The reason I ask is because on the Quest 3 I don't really need the controllers except for one part of the process, I can use hand tracking just fine until I connect using Link cable, then it no longer uses hand tracking and I have to use the controller just to click the desktop icon so I can use my computer normally with mouse and keyboard, boot into the game and use wheel and pedals. If any one knows let me know, thanks!

The FOV of the two being so similar is incredibly surprising and seems like it should be a testament to how innovative the Beyond really is, especially with that size difference. I did not realize how significant the size difference between them was until I saw them side-by-side here. I’ve not tried either, but I’m heavily leaning toward the Beyond for my next headset (coming from a G2 that’s been for the most part collecting dust because of how uncomfortable it can be at times).

Mine is set to arrive in a few weeks but I'm already waiting by the porch.

pimax has criminally bad customer support... I preordered the crystal light, but then cancelled the preorder because I will be traveling a lot this summer and most likely won't be home to receive the order in following weeks/months. first they said I would have to pay "order handling fee" if I wanted to proceed with refund, which is charged by their bank (?). I said the order wasn't even shipped, what handling fee. then they said ok, I'll get refund. they refunded 30 euros (pre-order) only. I asked what's happening with main refund (800+ euros), they said it will take a bit more business days (5-8). it's been 10 days since, and they didn't even initiate refund (via paypal), and they stopped replying to my messages. I opened the case via paypal, let's see what happens now

Was really hoping to hear a clear winner in the results as im looking to pickup a first vr headset. Want something high end with oled, high refresh, and little to no artifacts.

Is the bigscreen going to have a wireless option that works with lighthouses?

What is bothering me about the Pimax reviews, all of them have the DMAS headphones which is a expensive option, the Crystal Light comes with the SMAS earphones which are totally different. It would be nice if a review would talk about the SMAS earphones, how well they work, how do they compare to let's say a Rirft-S, Quest 2 and 3 and Pico 4 which all have built in earphones. I have a Crystal Light on order, not expecting it until August but am curious about the SMAS earphones since no one ever talks about them. please talk about them! LOL

I was really worried about the weight of the PCL. But upon weighing my Quest 3, I found out that with the Bobo battery headstrap, it is actually heavier than the PCL! I know Pimax has a look, but it does seem like they could cut down on the bulk of that thing. I think a lot more people would look into them if they weren't so huge!

what about the fixed foveated rendering of the pimax crystal light? im a bit skeptical of this. also, you mentioned a local dimming version, but as far as i can tell on pimax's website they only offer one version

The part where BYB is not native 2560x2560 at 90hz, only at 75hz. At 90hz you get 1920x1920 per eye and then upsampled is not good. Resolution is MUCH better on the PCL @ real 2880x2880 even at 120hz

The bigscreen beyond's small fov and sweetspot are absolute dealbreakers. I'd take a little more weight for larger lenses and maybe adjustable ipd.

I wouldn't mind having to partially disassemble the hmd to adjust it, I only want thatbcause I've seen multiple people saying the beyond's IPD isn't always perfect despite their face scan stuff.

I am really interested if audio strap for BigScreen Beyond is better than the one on Pimax Crystal Light

Thank you for the honest recommendations. But be honest, what is your daily driver? Also what do you get for the affiliate link?

I've criticized the Pimax Crystal a lot. I always thought their option with batteries and all that mess was unbearable, making it a virtual headset from the past.

In the end, I'm waiting for my Pimax Crystal Light, which should arrive in 3 days. It's obviously the best option if you're sticking to PCVR, now that they've removed all those flaws.

As for comfort, the Bigscreen is probably better, but don't forget you’ll need to put on an audio headset. This means dealing with the hassle of putting one on and then the other. And it’s either an additional cable for the headset or more batteries, and ears getting quite warm in the cushions...
What also stopped me from going for the Bigscreen was the need to scan your face with an iPhone. I think they've lost many customers on this point alone. Combined with visual imperfections, I'm not sure the OLED display makes up for all that.

After using Pimax for years and owning multiple of their headsets including the most recent Crystal, I have moved to the Bigscreen Beyond. The Crystal Light is threatening to temp me back. But something that none of these reviews are talking about is Pimax's bad track record for stability problems with their headsets and their bad customer service. The Beyond hasn't put a foot wrong since I got it, and that seems to be the typical experience for this headset. The Beyond's support is also excellent by all accounts. Whereas I think you would be hard pressed to find Pimax owners who haven't experienced frustration getting their headsets to work and stay working.

The simplified nature of the Crystal Light suggests this will be better. But still... it's Pimax.

These two companies have very different philosophies when it comes to polishing and supporting their current offerings. And it's something buyers should be considering when comparing them.
