Crashtest Tesla Cybertruck vs Ford F150 Lightning

Raw crashtest comparison of the Tesla Cybertruck and the Ford F150 Lightning. Unfortunately there's only some really bad footage of the Tesla Cybertruck crashtest. I tried to stitch it together in the most reasonable way to have a chance for a comparison!

At least the crash fixed the panel gaps for a brief moment

By looking closely, Ford had a softer impact compared to Cybertruck where the crumple zones ended abruptly causing more kinetic energy to go into the occupant.

Very cool that we’re not going to get independent crash test ratings until the vehicle is determined to be relevant enough to deserve it. By then it’ll be too late.

Is it just me or does the neck of the crash dummy in the cybertruck bend much more than in the F150 ?

Now I'm by no means a crashtest expert, but I see a very big difference in one specific but important aspect.
When you copare the two, the Ford stops continuously through the entire crash slowing down more and more as the crash continues.
The cybertruck however steadily slows down until a certain point and then suddenly stops entirely while the crash is still ongoing. If you look at the rear suspension you can even see the entire rear wheel shifting and turning foward. There is an insane amount of force needed to bend the entire suspension like that. Can't imagine what sitting inside that thing is like during a crash.

Thank you for this video! Finally an adequate comparison to another truck. The Cybetruck just fails miserably, I cannot imagine how hard the impact must feel... no compression zone, the trunk is just pushed into hard metall as it looks...

Does the roof deflect in the CT? Anybody got a use for a ton of scrap rusting stainless steel?

Huh. Looking at the travel in the crumple zones, I'm honestly surprised at the parity between the two. 🤔 I would have figured the Ford would have far larger. Honestly, it'll be interesting to see official crash results for the Cybertruck.

I'm very curious of what would happen to another car if they were to get into a collision with a cybertruck.

Yeah that's gonna hurt a lot for anyone in a Cybertruck

I think they both look to handle that really bad, what about pedestrian collision?

We're both vehicles crash tested by the same testing company ? I'm assuming they're both tested by the insurance institute for highway safety like most cars are.

Why is cybertruck's video like 2x speed compared tho f150's in the side by side comparison? Look at the wheels and at the distance from the wall in the beginning.

Thats a very heavy vehicle comming to a dead stop the occupents take that weight and its force when the truck hits . Its like being shot out of a cannon . Remember thus is only 35mph . Not even 60kph . Do you really wqnt to survive this crash if the airbags break your neck or bones from the opposite forces trying to slow you down . Most other cars crumple more to help slow the impact down .

I certainly wouldn’t want to be in the Cyber truck as it fails the absorb enough of the crash forces to keep them from getting transferred into the truck’s passengers. This truck is just plain dangerous. And anyone who gets hit by one doesn’t stand a chance.

Rumour has it that the Cybertruck cannot be homologated for sale in Europe because it would fail Euro NCAP

People are having a lot of fun speculating about the safety of the cybertruck, but I'm going to say the real proof is going to be in the insurances costs. Anybody know what it costs to insure one of these? I have a suspicion it's going to be a lot.

Look at the neck of the crashtest dummies. At cybercar, the had stays vertically, while the body of the dummy is probably almost horizontally at the end of the crash. Probably, because the steering wheel is too small to catch, support or stop the chest of the dummy.

People are going to die in that cypertruck. 😮

So the Cybertruck will be the first SUV awarded with a Darwin award.
