Benedict Arnold’s name became slang for a traitor and he died of gout in London in 1801

Benjamin Franklin knew what he was doing in Paris. By befriending French noblewomen, he acquired influence in the French Royal Court and with the King himself. He was in his seventies, so he was also having fun reliving his youth.

Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution (SAR & DAR) are organizations that still operate today by direct descendants of those soldiers that fought for the United States' independence. They are dedicated to protecting the Constitution and Bill of Rights and preserving history and patriotism. My ancestor fought with the Berks County (Pennsylvania) militia during the war.

In the United States if you are called a Benedict Arnold, it is an insult. You are being called a Traitor.

In the video my Hometown of Wilmington NC was mentioned as Gen Cornwallis left before he went to Yorktown. Many years ago, in school we visited The Cornwallis house the mansion that Gen Cornwallis stayed in.

I was a professional wine taster and buyer . I traveled all over the world looking for good wines made by smaller producers which we could import to the US . On one trip to France I met with a vineyard owner named the Comte De Grasse . When I asked him if he was a descendant of Admiral De Grasse who was the commander of the French Caribbean fleet, who brought his fleet up to the Chesapeake Bay where he cut off British General Cornwallis' only avenue of retreat, helping force his surrender which effectively ended the Revolutionary War, he was both very surprised and pleased that I knew some of his family history . We did business together .

There is a story where Benedict Arnold asked a US soldier what would happen if they American’s ever captured him.

The soldier replied: we would chop off your leg, which was wounded at Saratoga in the fight for freedom, and bury it will full honors. The rest we would leave hanging.

Today the only monument to Arnold is a a statue of a riding boot. It mentions no name, just that it is dedicated to the soldier of the Continental Army wounded on this spot.

Franklin was well into his 70's when he came to France. So the "screwing" around was more flirty and intellectually than physical.
Bit of a shame that Oversimplified reduces Franklin to a bit of a running joke. Absolutely fascinating person and hugely influential in the revolution. You can tell from how often he still comes up in this video.

And in science. He was the first to figure out how electricity actually works. Turning it from a party trick into science.

That made him arguably the most famous american in the world and Europe, especially in the Uk and France. And that's the reason he was sent to France later. His fame all the way up to the King was opening a lot of doors. He also was apparently quite the jovial and social guy who was very good with people.
But also quite tricksy and creative, when he needed to. The whole John Paul Jones thing was Franklins scheme.

The British offered freedom to the American slaves but the Americans didn't because slaves were property. They could free someone elses property.

To join the British, my folks had to escape their owners. After the war the British relocated their Black Loyalists to Nova Scotia Canada. Most of my family is from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick Canada.

Free Blacks did fight on the American side, I have relatives who were Patriots too.

You definitely must do the Civil War. But the Oversimplified video you'll like the most is Prohibition, when America voluntarily gave up its right to drink.

It’s funny because my whole life I’ve known the term/name Benedict Arnold meaning treason.

Back then if you were guilty of treason, you would most definitely be unalived. Also the treatment of enslaved people was a black eye to our nation.

Washington wasn't the best military leader, but he had a deep belief and kept the guys together long enough . One British guy watched Washington pray in secret, he said a man that prays like that will surely win the war. I had ancestor fighting in TN/VA area
