As if the RTX 3000 series hasn't had enough problems since it's launch, certain SKUs of RTX 3090 graphics cards as well as potentially others are having major issues with Amazon's New World game that could cause your GPU to go bang, sizzle and pop so join me as we look into it.

I had my eyes on new world for a while but never pre ordered and never realised there was sign up for the beta until my friend received the email with his access code thingy and started playing on his gtx 1660ti which it ran well on.I was mad I couldn't play the game at the time but I now feel quite lucky and will wait till the official launch and wait a little bit after to make sure my card won't get bricked.

I'm not gonna chance it with my 3090, but I've had 100% fan speed while the temp was showing at like 85 C. The VRAM junction temp was above 100 C. It's a known issue with the 3090 when it comes to mining, I wonder if that's at issue here as well.

It maybe a simple driver issue as per the original Nvidia RTX3000 release issues maybe…..I guess time will tell 🤔🤦🤦‍♀️

For years, you could hear the (already invalid) statement, that you cannot damage hardware with software.

For a long time we know that this is not true anymore. You can brick firmware and you can overclock from software that can cause damage. But where we have an OS and a layer with drivers, those are responsible for protecting the hardware from such events.

If a driver allows a card to be bricked by a game, than there is a problem with that driver. Unless the game is maliciously tries to overclock or get around the well defined APIs, either the card manufacturer or Nvidia drivers are to blame.

If there is an API call "render.scene(x, y, z)" in DirectX (or else) and that is capable of bricking the card, you can hardly blame the game dev. If they call functions under the hood, to overclock your card: then the blame is on them. To make justice, an un-patched version has to be researched.

Just my 2c. I am a developer (not game) and such, we get blamed for all kinds of shit, even if someone's API/service/hardware breaks under normal use .... somehow "we broke it" ...

18 minutes 13 seconds, "I know how hard it is to get these Cards" What What! U looked behind you? 😂 Great Video mate, shows u care about the Community. Who would have thought a game could damage a Card.

I’ve had a unique issue that doesn’t seem to be affecting many people at all…

My PC Spec:
I7 8700K, 64GB DDR4 3200Mhz, 970 EVO M.2 SSD and a water cooled RTX 2080 TI from Asus.

I get at a maximum 25 FPS on low.
On average, my FPS ranges between 8FPS and 20FPS - it should be well over 100FPS considering people with worse spec have 120+ etc
People keep saying “it’s your PC”, ran updates for everything, reinstalled drivers etc… every other game I play is totally fine and 90+ FPS on ultra (except Hell Let Loose which is another beta game anyway).

This is second game whit similar issue, and again cry engine is behind game.
I had similar experience with armored warfare in beta stage. Cry engine definitely can bypass factory settings of GPU. My card was HD 7950 MSI TF, but i was lucky becaus afterburner put voltage limit that can't be bypassed.
Issue was fixed by game patch and new radeon driver.

I wonder what would've had happened to the people who lost their 3090s

I don't like the word beta. Always sounds suspicious.

Jayztwocents is setting up a "sacrificial 3090" (!!!) setup to test the game to see what could be killing the cards.
Might want to keep an eye on him over the next week or so.

Meanwhile Jayzs video is out and it's about the same as other own-card's fanboy..The only one i can still trust is Bildzoid.

Simple and most likely answer: shoddy manufacturing. Nvidia has been on the wire since day one To keep up with demand. Its not a conspiracy or long shot to atvthat they're cutting corners with their manufacturing and using subpar parts or not thoroughly testing batches when they leave the line. Its not Amazon's fault in that they aren't doing it knowingly. They simply have a game beta that doesn't have software limiters on the FPS or resources usage. The fact that the hardware itself is skipping hard-coded voltage checks and bricking itself is cleaning a manufactoring issue. Nvidia isn't ready to admit it yet.

Have an EVGA 3090 XC3 ultra with a non working fan. Been playing with no issues running uncapped 🤷🏽‍♂️.
