I’ve always thought of this poem as being one about ~the time of death.
The things he sees/remembers right before seeing the demon (which, maybe, came to take him). He’s thinking about how one is born alone and also dies alone.
There’s nothing there in the end, only the demon who’s the answer to his ~mysteries
(“I could not bring my passions from a common spring”, he has had “a stormy life”; he’s a sinner, therefore the demon as his last view.
But that may be a very juvenile way of reading this poem, sorry about that.
Thanks a lot, Adrian, you’re still a very consistent content creator. Keep it up!

I feel like the mystery that binds me still means. He doesn't know why he is ever trying to live. Because he doesn't want to live. I mean ppl who struggle with childhood neglect for example are prone to those kinda stuff. That's why I love this poem. And specially the line. And all I loved. I loved alone. He was alone growing up. The second part of the poem I feel like he went to a imagnitive universe as his childhood was soo real in the first part then it became imagnitive later on or when he grew up.

My Analysis of this Poem by Edgar Allan Poe is that it is a reflection of the source of his aloneness and its consequences, that is the mystery he ponders of a happier life.
The death of both parents at two y.o. is the intro. followed by his lack of motherly love (common spring). This lack of family heritage was omitted from the toddler and replaced with a stormy adopted family relationship with his unloving father and doting mother. The outro is his parent's death is the demon that haunts him.

I discovered this poem thanks to a YouTube video. This is now my favorite poem, and I am now understanding why the raven is my symbol. I am French, by the way, and even though I am doing my best to follow your explanation, it might not be easy ;)

Thank you anyway ❤

"I could not bring my passions from a common spring" This line is probably referring to puberty, or a "normal" coming of age . "The mystery which binds me still" This line is very universal, probably referring to the mystery which binds any of us still. "A demon in my view". He could have easily said "An Angel in my view" but being the tortured soul the he obviously was, saying demon was a the logical choice. My six year old son is a very advanced reader and he's learning this, so I used Angel instead of Demon for now, which gives the entire poem a more uplifting vibe.

Imo from first listen, the demon is the fear and shadowy thoughts from being different. The turmoil and constant questioning. Good video😊

In the first line " Been" should be pronounced with a long ee, like bean, because it was a common pronunciation of the word by more educated people at the time. And also because it goes with the rhyme. Been, Seen, Bring, Spring.

he doesn't explain most of his lines but most of these factors that he mentioned are common with people who struggle with childhood neglect

I love edgar's work because it seems pretty accesible. Yes, there are a lot of layers to it still but a poem's meaning can mean different things for anyone. People take from it what they need and that's easier to do with Edgar's poetry I find than a lot of others.

This is actually the poem that got me into Edgar Allan Poe. As a child I was pretty much allergic to everything so much so I could barely go outside. One day when I had accidentally slept on a down pillow which Swoll my eyes closed. My grandmother chose to read me alone. I have been a massive fan of Edgar Allan Poe ever sense.

He was affiliated, by some spiritual entity. Or demon?? Poe, lived in spirit realm and also here in our 3d world. Which gave him the opportunity to create the brilliant world. That we know as his mind and words.
