I'm prone to cavities AND gum desease. It's not just what I think, my dentist told me, that due to my oral flora, it will always be this way. I try to floss after every meal now and it helps. Rigorous regime helps a lot. I will probably have some cavities in the future, but I'm visiting my dentist often enough for this not to become a bigger issue anymore.

Why don’t dental offices teach people how to brush and food properly? Especially if so many people have been found to use the wrong technique. I am almost 40 and I’ve never had a dental office instruct me on proper technique. Never.

One thing I learned worsens my cavities is nutrient deficiency! I had gone many years with no cavities and had not changed my brushing-flossing routine but noticed when I moved to the US suddenly I was getting a lot of cavities and I was thinking it was the toothpaste or the foods I was eating and very greatly ignoring the fact that I was simply just relapsing in my eating disorder (I cut out all sugars and when I still kept getting cavities I was like why??). Literally from simple food restriction (for me it was around 600 cals a day over two years) I just kept getting more cavities. I’m working on recovery again for my teeth !

I just wish I’d had this information when I was young! All those cavities and fillings that are turning into root canals and crowns😡
I’ve found a great tip for the community. I’m loving the Colgate toothpastes with stannous fluoride. Other brands may be just as good idk. My teeth would stain previously but they’ve made it somehow stain free. I have sensitive teeth and the stannous fluoride seems to work just as well as potassium nitrate.

Thanks for sharing this! I recently had to have a filling done & I was really upset about it. 😢Despite being on top of my oral care at home, I felt this shouldn’t have happened. However, my dentist assured me it wasn’t something that happens immediately overnight & it can happen to anyone. He mentioned to not get discouraged & a filling is far better than a root canal or extraction. He also said I had improved a lot since my first visit YEARS ago & to keep up the good habits at home as it’s about prevention. 🥺 It’s important to hear these things & be reminded! ❤🪥🦷

Also look into magnesium, vitamin D and K2 deficiencies, which prevent gut absorption of Ca and P and that can cause cavities. You need all 5 to reduce your risk.

I went through most of my life with almost no cavity issues even though I didn't do a good job keeping my teeth clean nor did I avoid sweets. I took for granted that I was immune to cavities. However, I suddenly started getting lots of cavities. I am trying to figure out what changed. I asked around and it seems many people started having teeth issues when they age past 40. I wish Teeth Talk Girl can discuss what changes with age to people's teeth.

Nowadays, when I eat sweet OR salty snacks (cookies, chocolate bars, crackers, chips, etc.), I sip milk and/or end my snack with a small piece of cheese. I’ve also recently started taping my mouth shut at night because I noticed that it felt quite dry in the morning, and I understand that a dry mouth promotes cavities.

Speaking of dairy, I wonder whether populations that customarily end their meals with cheese (whether instead of dessert or following it), such as the French, have better oral health than populations that don’t.

Thank you for another great video.

My dentist recommended the Philips sonicare brush and its been a lifesaver. My family started using it to. One of the best investments if you are prone to cavities
