Hillbilly - LDRS 26 - High Power Rocket Launch

Videos of these large rocket launches are nice. Being there in person is 10 times better. I was at the Battle Park launch in Virginia in '94, an experience I'll never forget. My "big" Estes Saturn V was dwarfed by most of the other rockets there in size and power. I hope to get to another LDRS event soon.

This is definitely a hobby/sport for those who live way out in the desert. No way I could launch anything like that round here.

As opposed to the other rocket launches I saw in other countries, it makes me feel proud that our rockets fly straight, and don't do any loop de loops overhead. GO USA!

When I was your age I was building Estes rockets and flying them. I still fly them today with my son who is 10. I never got into the bigger rockets, too expensive for me. I did go to a LDRS launch in Virginia in the 90s, it was a lot of fun and everyone was helpful and friendly. Hopefully I can take my son to an LDRS launch one day, I'm sure he would love it.

Class 3 launches are cleared with the FAA to avoid any incidents with aircraft and the launch sites are always clear and away from residential areas. Rocketry is a great hobby to get involved in.

A non commercial GPS on that, some software and you have your own missile. Sure NSA, Pentagon, FBI and everyone else will be in hot pursuit of you afterwards but you got your missiles so bring them on!!
