It’s a sad truth that lying or deceiving is norm rather than exception in interviews.

you have to play the game man. it doesnt matter if its a lie. they ask you whats your most desired company to work for then you say that company. play the game

Veeva is very inconsistent in my experience. Applied 8 times, met the criterias they posted, talked personally to the recruiter (as per them, anyone meeting minimum requirements are given interviewing opportunity), but still got rejected every time. They don’t respond to emails even though I talked to them personally. Won’t apply again.

Swe at Veeva. Dodged a bullet. Good for you.

Yeah, it's a bit of a silly game. My response when people ask who I'm most excited to join is always wherever appears to fill x requirements/desires for a workplace, not a specific name. Once you have had a few roles under your belt, it gets a lot easier.

I've interviewed tons of candidates for roles, and if you included your YT channel in your resume, I either would skip the code interview or have fun with it. Even if you messed it up, it's clear you know how to solve these kind of problems. And it would probably be a better use of time to cover other aspects of the interview more in depth.

Thanks for highlighting; it recently happened with me for me at a very small startup RADAI, the hiring manager was interested in just bringing for onsite. Everything went well btw they asked leetcode hard; I challenge any engineer on the team to solve in 45 mins. The hiring manager and recruiter were friends and they literally said if you have other offer go ahead. I don’t know how this kind of people live.

If you openly express your desire to work for someone else, it's unlikely that anyone will hire you. It makes complete sense; recruiters are seeking individuals who are genuinely passionate about contributing to the company's mission for a long period of time.

You're faced with two options:
- Deceive: A choice that undermines your integrity, damages your confidence and wont give you professional satisfaction. Even if you're hired, managers and senior staff will eventually pick up on your lack of enthusiasm.

- Seek out the perfect match: Look for companies that genuinely inspire you. Small companies / non-mainstream sometimes are actually a much better option.

Regarding veeva, if they are interviewing 10 people and 2 of them pass. Why would they take the one that said they’d rather be somewhere else? You don’t have to lie. Just don’t self sabotage. 😅

Exact same thing happened w me for veeva man all the team interviews went great but the recruiter round they asked me the same question and I wasn’t passionate enough for veeva against my other offer I think

It’s more than just worrying you’ll take a different job. There’s also an element of testing whether you have good discretion and tact that I’m not surprised developers would miss. For example, interviewers know when they ask you for weaknesses that you’re not supposed to actually list your biggest weaknesses. If you do, it says you have bad discretion. If you can deflect it into a strength, it shows good discretion. Discretion and tact are important for getting along and doing well in a team.

2020 had massive, insane hiring. Everyone was going online. All techs boomed, and not just because of stupid US ZIRP.

Oh you are a starter at interviews. I am the proud owner of 20+ failed interviews. Mostly those interviews became training ground for how to interview. And the worst part is, anytime i interviewed it was for leveling up, and no one would guide or tell me, what the these guys wanted, to a point where I would just try to brain dump whatever I knew, and I would miss things I know. As crazy it may sound, I would judge myself during the interview based on what I wanted to say compared to what I was saying and then the stress obviously makes me forget things, and these interviewers just break my flow.

But anyway those companies ended up having data leaks, so I think in the end it’s alright
