I’ve been waiting for this video since I found your channel! I almost like that you’re not a “finance professional” because it seems a lot more realistic and doable coming from someone who is actually just living their life making a system work! Thanks for sharing :)

I LOVED this video, it was so super helpful. As a preschool teacher on a lower income I have to be very careful and strategic with my money, and these types of videos help keep me motivated to reach my goals.I can watch finance videos all day haha Keep up the great work! xoxoxo

I’m crazy and I have write down everything I spend in a notebook then log them into the EveryDollar App... tedious but makes me see what I spend 2 times and especially with the EveryDollar App I can see how much I have left in the budget of that category. I know if you pay for the app it links to your bank but I actually prefer to do it myself so I can see it. I did an excel sheet for awhile but I prefer to have it on my phone cause I use that more than my computer!

Love this--it's so interesting and relatable! You're my favorite youtuber because I can actually relate to you on so many levels! We both graduated the same time and have had a similar track post-grad it seems like, so I deff get budgeting Inspo from you. I actually budget really similarly but I physically hand write everything down in my planner LOL to make it even more tedious and hold myself accountable. I have the same goal of 10k by 2021 so heres to hoping we get there! (which I am sure we will :) )

I absolutely budgeting. I don’t get how people don’t and just wing it? Thank you for this vid! I love seeing how other people budget. One of my 2020 goals was to save 10k so this was great! And I completely love putting things in manually. It feels like I’m in more control of my finances rather than everything just being automatic and I’m constantly seeing it

I’m the same as you. I keep track of all my expenses too but I used a third party app called Spending App. It does exactly what you do. Every time I spend a dollar I enter it in the app and it breaks it down by each category. It’s an ok app but could use improvement.

This motivated me to get my budget in order. I've been getting lazy and spending extra on things I don't need (like ordering in and buying things that sound fun to do while I'm stuck at home bored) and having a tracker in place to see it all will really help me to realize what's acceptable and where I need to "trim the fat". Thank you for sharing!

Tedious is good! I’m the same way and honestly... it helps me avoid unnecessary spending ❤️ Tracking everything isn’t for everyone, but for me (and you!) it is AWESOME! (Plus I feel more I’m control which is nice ☺️)

Hi! Have you heard about the 50-30-20 rule? It is a formula where you take 100% and split it in 50% for your expenses (rent, loans, food) 30%. For activities, hobbies, coffee and 20% for savings. I suggest you use those savings to have an emergency fund of at least 3-6 months and after that you keep saving but focusing on other goals such as buying stock on index funds, buying a new car, a down payment for a house or traveling. I hope this helps, greetings from Venezuela! Keep up the vlogs I love DC. I have family there and I enjoy going to visit

I started using the app YNAB (You need a budget) at the end of last year and I gotta say it’s completely changed my relationship with money and how I approach savings and budgeting. A lot of what the app teaches us you already do amy, it’s just a little more automated. It does have a yearly fee but I’ve saved exponentially more than the cost of the app and couldn’t recommend it more to anyone who asks how I budget my money. Might be worth checking out, even though it seems your system works pretty well already! I love learning about how other people budget! I also live in DC so This is even more interesting considering we probably have similar lifestyles. Really enjoyed this :)

thanks for sharing! I really enjoyed this video and from your perspective since you are not "a finance professional" - a lot more relatable and easy to follow!

Y'all should try Mint. It's a great budgeting app that does all of the tracking for you!

I do this exact same thing! I created my own spreadsheets in Google Sheets and programmed the columns and rows to add everything up based on the category I input for each expense. I have the Sheets app on my phone so I can update the numbers while I’m out and about if need be! I opted for this DIY method because I couldn’t find a (free) app that was customizable enough for my lifestyle/spending habits. I’ve been doing it this way since the beginning of 2020 and I’ve been able to save a lot more just by being able to visualize all my spending and earning in one place because it makes me more conscious of where my money is going and where I could allocate it more effectively/wisely.

Why don't you use Google Sheets and then you can just add straight to the spreadsheet on the mobile app and will keep everything updated.
