REPAIRING A ROTTED WROUGHT IRON RAILING LEG USING PLUMBING PARTS

I’ve been up against it before and have spent countless hours researching methods of repairing a rotted out leg on a wrought iron railing only to be let down because nothing was available.

Sure you could purchase a replacement flange for the leg and there is always JB Weld, but usually when the leg rusts off your left with missing material that won’t reach the flange, thereby leaving your options very limited.
This video will provide my personal method for repairing the railing using plumbing parts. Best of all, every customer that has this repair loves it and finds it to be acceptable both structurally as well as aesthetically.

Here are links to the items you will need:

Hope your project is successful,
Bob & Kitana

I just so happened to have some exact sizes of unused flanges and nipples! Thanks!

I just had my wrought iron railing painted shiny and black. There is one leg that is rotted at the base. I am excited to try your fix. I don't think it is a load bearing leg. I feel like your fix would work, except that I am not able to lift the leg to place the pipe under it. I will have to tip the pipe to slide it under and up to brace it. Wish me luck. Worst case, I will have it welded...

Another nice practical repair Bob. Thanks for sharing. BTW I just noticed that my Lowes is carrying a tapcon alternative -- a simpson strong tie blue screw. Might not be new but I've never noticed it before. Looks same but with a T-30 drive -- I can't wait to try since I really prefer torx to philips head screws. Stay cool!

So you're able to screw into cement?

Very nice, Bob, I was wondering what kind of connector, u bolt or metal strap I could use to connect 2 porch railings together I'll be welding the top 2 corners together but I would like some additional connection strength about 15in down to connect them or bolt them together, thanks you do good work 👍

Thank you for this video. My wrought iron is falling apart. Who can repair wrought iron? I really enjoyed your video but I am not inclined to do the work myself. Who or what type of business would I need to seek out to do the repairs on my front porch?

That flange/nipple is very practical but that's expensive, you probably could've found something cheaper.
