Am I understanding the subtitles? It looks like they say she's adopted, don't they? But she's not. They're foster parents, which means they take care of her but her guardian is the government. It's super important to the story, because foster parents are not her legal parents like adoptive parents are, so a child can be removed forever from foster parents incredibly easily. There doesn't need to be any proof they're bad foster parents. Even just a slight suspicion could be enough.

Dr. Bailey's colleague made a mistake in the name of the condition: it's not chronic inability to feel pain, it's CONGENITAL inabilit to feel pain... which means that you are born with it.
