Corona Discharge
Let us consider two conducting sphere A and B having radius R_a 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑅_𝑏 respectively. They are very very far away from each other (may be ten’s of meters) and they are connected by a conducting wire (that is essential).
I charged it as shown in figure.
Conclusion: We see that smaller radius has larger surface charge density to maintain the same potential.

Now consider a conductor with a non-spherical shape. A charge is given to that conductor. From above
discussion surface charge densities won’t be same.

Electric will be higher at point A compared to point B.
This electric field may cause dielectric breakdown in air. Often this discharge of air is accompanied by a visible glow surrounding the pointed end. This phenomenon is called corona discharge.
