Author Douglas Murray says there is an “awful lot” of double standards at play in the public’s reaction to the recent photo scandal involving BBC presenter Huw Edwards.

“The people who are saying ‘be kind’ about Huw Edwards now are very often the people who rampage across social media, as well as the media, bullying everyone,” Mr Murray told Sky News host Caleb Bond.

“I don’t trust these people.”

Douglas Murray, the only man with and brain and sense left in the world.

The thing that's pee'd me off is his scuttling away like a coward to hide in a (probably) really swanky private clinic with an A La Carte menu. As someone who's suffered from mental health issues since I was 10 (now 55) who at times has had to plead and beg to get treatment and KNOWS that depression doesn't make people do the things Edwards did I feel insulted and mislabeled. The only reason his mental health is so poor is because he got caught, he KNOWS he's done more than enough for very serious consequences and his reputation is in tatters.

I don’t want to bring down the BBC I just don’t want to be forced to pay for it!

More to the point would they be so forgiving if it was their teenage child who was being used.

Quite simply, if the public pay your salary, which if you're a BBC employee, they do - then using the clout that position brings for your own sleazy gratification by exploiting the vulnerable is in the public interests to know!

I haven’t heard him deny the allegations, just that a statement will be made when he feels like doing so . He’s just hiding behind the metal health shield until then . Bloody disgusting behaviour . STOP PAYING BBC TAX .

I love Douglas, but I have to disagree with him on this one. The public isn't outraged because we hold journalists to unfair standards that we ourselves don't embody - they're outraged because it seems clear that these men were preying on teenagers that were not of legal age, and that 'the system' is conspiring to cover for them. If you honestly believe that Philip and Hew waited until their victims were above the age of consent before exploiting them, I have a bridge in London to sell you.

I wouldn't trust the Met police to tell me the time while standing next to Big Ben.
And there is a Welsh constabulary investigation into the claims.

He's in trouble for being threatening, even worse than the other issues at hand.

Go on, Douglas! I couldn't agree more. The 'my language/my truth' crowd is insufferable at best, and dangerous at worse. And the 'conservatives-only' scapegoating is so conspicuous and so dubious it is laughable!

We need a full exposé into the BBC’s real role in this.

Douglas Murray - such humility. He's straight talking too/ he's syth as we say in Wales. Exactly, or if she was one's own daughter or merely a guy on the street in his 60s, leering at a teen. Always a joy to listen to this intelligent man.

Here's the thing. Think of Edwards's wife and five children who now have to deal with the psychological trauma of his noncery.
