Toyota Techstream Software - Overview and Install

In this week’s episode we’re taking a look at Toyota’s Techstream software and diagnostic tool. I’ll let a random Amazon seller in China remote into my computer and try not to brick my luxury SUV by using hacked software to change trivial settings like how long the seat belt dinger goes off if I drive off unsecured.

I've started cashing in all the free Dad jokes. The links below may be affiliate links. Please use them to help support me making more content (and a fool of myself). Enjoy!

How this guy does NOT have all the subscribers I will never know. Funny and informative. Exactly the kind of channel I like to subscribe to. Thanks!

i have an old XP lappy that i keep for this sort of thing, where can i get the techstream to just run on this, the link seems to be for a version designed only for virtualbox, and it would seem crazy to run virtualbox on a machine that... is already windows XP, which should be perfect for TS. Thanks

As usual... Awesomely funny and somewhat legal advices 😀. A fan from China.

Thank you so much! I had the exact same CD, with the exact same paper instructions, with the exact same problem: it installs version 15 just fine, but version 15 doesn't have the button I needed to get in and update the TPMS codes. Found the blog you mentioned, got version 12 in the virtual machine, and the button I need is finally there and I got the codes updated.

Thanks for the video. Do you know if this works on a 2022 4runner? I talked to the dealership about disabling the rear window buttons link to the door lock to see if I will be able to roll my rear window up using the buttons on the back without having to shut the car off and close all the doors. The setting in my manual shows it's customizable at dealership but they told me you have to enter a password in the software to make changes. It would run $160 and they are not sure what that change will even do. ugh! I don't know if the password deal is new or if that's BS.

Great video! By the way, I would like to ask if you know the answer - does Subaru have a similar application like this? I have a Subaru Forester and I dont know what application Subaru is using. Thank you!

Hello, I wonder if you make changes with Techstream. Are there any traces or info left in the system that the Dealer can notice? My unit is new 2022 Highlander and I don't want to lose any warranty. Thank you

I would love to know how you got tech stream working on the Mac because I used the same links and found the VM could not manage the USB level communications because the Windows 7 environment lacked the necessary drivers. It is not as easy as you make out I have spent weeks on this and the devil is in the detail. a video onboard specific Mac configuration would be appreciated.

Other than the seatbelt buzzer you could have done those things from the onboard menu settings

I am having an ABS issue on 2010 Prius that only has 120k! I plan to replace related parts then have the dealer to air bleed and calibrate the ABS. They want over $200 when i did the hard work already.
Thanks to the mini vci cable and the Chinese copy cat I can buy all day long for under $20 and have access to service for not only Toyota but Lexus and Scion which i don't own.

This is a must have tool as I have practically the same tool as the dealer tech. using for fraction of what they charge each time. No need to buy rip off price from Toyota or their rip off subscription either. You can find or buy online all day long for dirt cheap. Mine comes with license version.

Knowledge plus action is

A used window or macbook will work. I use MacBook Air with virtual window.

Thanks for the video. Can you share what version of virtual box you were able to successfully use? I am a Mac OS 10.15.7 user and version 5.2 does not work which is the last version that supports 32 bit. Thx

I got techstream installed and working. However when it got to register my TPMS sensors, after pressing "write" to the ecu, it gives me communication error. I think it might be my cable. Your thoughts?

@Wasting Time in The Woods the "Cheap One" dongle points to a Volkswagon / Audi / SKODA cable... in the video you show a $69 one... I would prefer to purchase this once and know that it will work.. can you link to the one you purchased?
