How I Painted A Snow Leopard!

Here's my first painting of 2020! - Watch me go through the process of sketching and painting a picture of this snow leopard.

This is the first time I've touched my paints for about 6 months - I was rusty!

I love snow leopards - probably my favourite big cat of all... I found this image online as an incredible photo and had to have a go at recreating it. - I love how something that's usually considered fairly monotone can have so much colour - these animals are definitely not black and white! I also loved the shallow depth of field, something I enjoy in photography (and use regularly to make a subject 'pop out of the page'), but never really tried in a painting.

I used watercolour primarily, but used conte sticks and some white gauche towards the end to make the colours a bit more dynamic. To create the 'blurry' look to the out of focus parts of the image i ended up lightly shading the whole image in white conte to make it fade back a bit.
