Awesome techniques, Christina! Another one is to use a diffuser. It gives a similar effect as when you embossed only part of the panel, but you can have shapes. I don't know if they are still around, but Tim Holtz used to sell plastic diffusers. I just make my own from chipboard or matboard scraps. I would think you could layer several pieces of cardstock and get the same result. I can die cut a shape - oval, square, rectangle, etc. - and use either the frame piece or the shape itself. You then just tape it to the top of your embossing folder, & run it through your machine with the cardstock inside. Only the portion of the cardstock that is under the diffuser (chipboard/matboard/etc.) will emboss. You may have to experiment with your sandwich, since you are adding extra thickness with the diffuser. Just be careful & don't force everything through! There will be a little "bleeding" or softening along the edges of the embossed design, and so it won't be crisp, hard edge. But it's another nice way to get extra mileage from your folders.
