I'd hardly call it a "trick". Being able to do a trick requires a modicum of ability. I wouldn't leave Truss in charge of my cafe.

I wasn't a huge fan of Thatcher but she was an intellectual and eloquent. Liz is not Thatcher. She’s like a junior bank manger who thinks she’s in charge.

Truss and Kwarteng can be compared to Laurel and Hardy, not Thatcher. What a fine mess they have got us into.

The fact that the Tory party voted her in says more about their ideology & ineptitude than hers.

I feel sorry for her husband and the kids...maybe get social services involved for support to get them through this?

No, I'm not having that "Falklands war, Thatcher rose to the occasion". The British military rose to the occasion, despite the situation being made a lot more difficult due to massive defence cuts she had made only a few years before. She was unpopular and got reelected on the back of the eventual victory. Too many soldiers/sailors/aircrew lost their lives (or often their jobs later) in order to save her government.

I don't understand how she's even prime minister, every interview, every speach, she has ever given in her life has been a car crash, she's totally inept, how and why did the Conservative party then give someone like that the power to then surround herself with other believers in the cause, and go down an ideological route to destruction, sunak was warning this throughout the leadership contest, I don't care how or what it does to her and her career, but she needs to go now, she is almost childish in her demeanour, probably instead of her parents taking her to protest rallies they should have let her grow up 1st

Little angerlands demise has been a long time brewing, the carefully selected ingredients of bitterness, hate, division and greed have indeed all imparted their flavours well.

Thatcher did not EVER ‘own her mistakes’ Right up until her dying day she never once doubted the certainty that she was right about everything. Wogan interviewed her in the 90s and ambushed her with the simplest question ‘Looking back Mrs Thatcher what would you say was the biggest mistake you yourself made that caused you lasting regret’ ? She looked at him dumbfounded and did not have a clue how to respond. One thing I will concede is that ‘sound money’ was one of the building blocks of her platform (even if it meant callously inflicting hardship). She would have had absolutely NOTHING to do with this hair-brained mini budget. She also, it’s no secret, mistrusted what she saw as ‘creeping federalism’ in Europe but at the same time was one of the principle proponents of the Single Market and would have been utterly horrified at the economically ruinous hard Brexit inflicted on us by dragging us out of the CU and the SM. That Truss styles herself as Thatcher the 2nd is beyond risible.

Thats a very good analogy I have been thinking about her conference yesterday and what it felt like and it very much was a hostage video.... with only a couple of points the captors wanted her to pass on, if you listen to the answers at the end it was basically the same answer to all for questions with the words moved around a little.

She’ll have to go and quickly. Bring on a general election.

Truss is overlooking the fact that millions of people hated Thatcher.
