If the gravitational pull is > than the speed of light, that means not even light can break from it's surface => you can't see it (there's nothing reflecting out of it), all you might see is matter swirling around it

There's another side to the event horizon. There is the inner side, inside the black hole. It's probably made of light that can't escape, so it's frozen in place.
