hal1900 - agree, however the basic redemption yield on a bond is usually quoted before tax (gross) as obviously the issuer doesn't know your marginal rate of tax as an investor.

So, the price you buy a bond can go up or down and that price is related to interest rate. In simple terms, WHEN is the BEST time to buy bonds and WHEN is the BEST time to get out of bonds "permanently".?

you're right, optionsupdate--he never made that point as clearly as you just did. I kept waiting for him to say something like, "so, you give the government 113, and four years later they give you 120 back", and then explain how to calculate your actual return.

not to nitpick too much, though--it's a very good series overall.
