Has Kamala Harris evolved from 'top cop' to racial justice leader?

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s selection of California Senator Kamala Harris as his vice-presidential running mate for the November election makes her the first Black woman and the first Indian American on a major party presidential ticket. Some, like She the People's Allison Aimee, laud Harris's nomination as a means of empowering Black women and women of color, who are "the fastest growing voting bloc and the most underrepresented at every level of government." But others, like Current Affairs contributing editor Briahna Joy Gray, are more critical of Harris for her status as a former attorney general — a "top cop from California" running for office amid the largest protest movement in U.S. history against racist policing.

Sez straightened-hair woman, the country wants "a Black woman, " like race and gender are the critical factors. Harris is completely absent on any issue that matters to People of Color. This is total tokenism. You can say "women of color" all you want, but picking someone just for their color and gender is racism and sexism, and does not serve any needs of the community. Harris has not served her community in California, which is why she was LOSING in her own state to Yang.

My lack of enthusiasm is because of Bill Clinton being included as a speaker at the DNC convention this weekend! Court docs were just unsealed last week (Aug 2020) by a judge that show Bill Clinton's name on flight manifests 26 times (!) on Epstein's private plane going to Epstein's island in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

And also imagine during social unrest and black lives matter movement taking off that Biden decides to vote for a cop that should tell u what he feels about black people.

Part of the problem is, we know where she stand on a lot of issue. I could not care less about her color .

What Americans want is Universal Health Care, decent paying jobs, work hours and conditions, debt free college tuition, a congress system run by the people not corporations, wealth equality, a Police Department that doesn't kill or maim but protects the people not just big money interests, climate change action, and the list goes on. If politicians aren't going to represent the people on issues that matter to them whether they are black, brown, brindle, male, female, trans, gay, straight, rich, poor, fat, skinny, old or young means absolutely nothing. That's why there is about as much enthusiasm for Biden/Harris as there was for Clinton.... again.

I'm a 65 y/o Socialist. If you think this is the first time in my life that I held my nose and voted for a Democratic presidential candidate, think again. I did it last time, and the time before that, and the time before that, ad infinitum... The two party system has never been a choice of Right vs Left. It's always been Right vs Far Right. When we say Smash Capitalism we're not whistling Dixie

Briahna Joy Gray of course nails it. She pisses off the elite establishment so much for essentially going down the road of progressivism when she could have easily been a lobbyist or on the campaign for some establishment candidate. A traitor to her class. Awesome!

This interview just reaffirms for me how out of touch Aimee & Biden are with poor/working class folks & grassroots organizations. The demands that the people/orgs have made are systemic overhauls. I find it interesting that she is posing that Kamala is this “Messiah” that can sway & influence black folks based mostly on her being black. Or that she is what we asked for quite frankly. Kamala is extremely moderate & has a lot of conservative ideals & politics that are completely opposite of what the people have been demanding. Also, I know it’s been said a million times, but black people aren’t monolithic! We don’t all believe in the same things or share the same values. And I think it shows by the amount of outrage poor/working class black folks have had after this pick. I almost feel gaslit. Do the progressive changes that Kamala & Biden have made since campaigning hold any water to the damage they have done? Or the changes that they have blatantly said they won’t make? I think the election being so polarized, (& only having two sides to choose from quite frankly) has a lot of people forgetting that both sides aren’t ideal for anyone trying to move the country forward & not back in time, or keep things as they have always been. Also, It’s mandatory to be critical of politicians, while also doing our civil duty of preventing Trump from taking office again. This whole “lesser of two evils” thing when it comes down to elections have got to go. But until then, I digress.
