I was actually in a 6 PC party where no one had darkvision (we had 2 humans, a tortle, a warforged, halfling, and an air genasi). My DM said he'd never seen that happen in his 17+ years playing/DM'ing, where not a single PC had it.

Personally I find dark vision boring as a power because of how common it is. It ends up feeling like a weakness for the characters who don't have it rather than a strength for the ones who do. So I prefer to houserule it out except for literal cave dwelling races like goblins.

I was once in a party of entirely tieflings. We threw around darkness spells like it was going out of style.

I'm one of two humans in our level 20+ party. For the grand finale dungeon, we made sure to get our hand on darkvision granting items. After 4 sessions, out DM still forgets we can see in the dark now.
