How lawsuits against opioid manufacturers, sellers are making an impact

Thousands of towns and cities across the country are suing opioid manufacturers and sellers for their role in the opioid crisis. Over a hundred thousand people died from a drug overdose in 2021, with about 16,000 of those cases involving prescription opioids. Jonathan Vigliotti reports from San Francisco, one of the cities involved in the lawsuit.

In America you throw lawsuits around and see what sticks. The lawsuit against Walgreens is one such case.

So now doctors are moving towards not giving pain relieving drugs right after surgery. The problem is over prescribing the amount of meds and not following up pt’s in 3-5 days. Generally a person should be coming off the narcotics in 24-48 hours after surgery. At which point a person can take acetaminophen or ibuprofen. If extreme pain is persistent then a pain specialist should be examining the next steps for non narcotic pain relief. People are getting g lost in the system and not getting the health education the is required for healing. People and doctors need to be held accountable for the prescriptions that given. That means educating your clients and evaluating your clients on their needs and predisposition to addiction.

What have this do with people who needed pain killers for pain. These people who are overdose are people who are just getting high. But the people who got hoof on OPIOID from a prescription from a doctor is different.

He said it was about his choices. He said he found support. How a person thinks makes all the difference in the world! The old just say no campaign was a good one. It did not tie up the court system with suits that impacted people who had nothing to do with the issue.

When you run the prescription opioids into oblivion, are there going to be any alternatives for controlling my chronic severe pain?

I blame the doctors for prescribing these legal opioids - I had a major surgery that required a hospital stay and after my surgery the doctors tried for 3 days to get me to accept their opioid pain meds prescription despite me telling and showing them I wasn’t in any pain.
