A solid top on a single block is different since a normal game will have missing end pieces in the middle that throw off the balance and wouldn't be able to drop as cleanly. Entire thing would shift and if just center piece is in middle row it'd go down easy.

Not sure if this counts when the tower had not been played with at all. What I mean is that the guy in the original video managed to do it with pieces taken for the lower, middle, and upper parts of the tower. Nerdist simply built on top of a base of 1 Jenga block.
